Teen Mom’s Kailyn Lowry Reveals Why Baby No. 5 Led to Leaving the Show

As a devoted fan of Kailyn Lowry and her dynamic family saga, I can’t help but be awestruck by the incredible journey she has embarked upon. The resilience, love, and strength that radiates from each member of her brood are truly inspiring.

Kailyn Lowry is sharing more details about why she left Teen Mom 2.

Two years following her departure from the MTV series, the reality star revealed that the birth of her fifth child, Rio, served as one of several motivations for stepping away from the show. She is also mother to 23-month-old and 11-month-old twins, Verse and Valley, who she shares with her fiancé, Elijah Scott.

She shared with Trisha Paytas during the October 17th episode of “Just Trish” podcast that she departed in the year 2022 upon discovering her fifth pregnancy, explaining, “I realized I couldn’t continue like this.

The woman aged 32, who is a mother to four sons – Isaac Rivera (14), with ex Jo Rivera, Lincoln Marshall Marroquin (10) with ex-partner Javi Marroquin, Lux Lowry (7), and Creed Lopez (4) with ex Chris Lopez – also disclosed that she and her current partner had not initially planned to have a baby, which played a significant role in her decision to depart.

Kailyn clarified that getting pregnant wasn’t something they had intended. It happened during their first intimate moment together and at a point when their relationship was still in its early stages. Thus, she felt it was overwhelming for her.

Apart from her growing romance, the host of Coffee Convos pointed out that Elijah’s unfamiliarity with reality television and his other independent projects were among the reasons she decided to leave.

Kailyn explained, “I had several factors at play. Elijah hadn’t appeared on television yet, but my podcast took off enormously. In fact, it started earning me more income than what I was getting from Teen Mom.

The Pride Over Pity author also detailed the emotional burden of participating in the show.

Kailyn expressed that she found it hard to accept the stress associated with “Teen Mom,” stating, “I would offer a variety of topics for filming, but they were only interested in discussing my relationships with my kids’ fathers. It seems outdated and worn-out, doesn’t it? I have other issues, I can provide excitement, I’m open to new ideas, but let’s focus on those instead.

Even though this mother of seven isn’t featured on any current MTV show, she mentioned that she’s bound by a contract elsewhere and is excited about making a comeback on television.

“Yeah, hopefully, if someone buys it,” she added. “Somebody buy my show.”

Ahead of her return to TV, read on to learn all about Kailyn’s family tree.

17 years ago, I found myself in the role of a young mother, welcoming my eldest son, Isaac Elliot Rivera, into the world with my high school sweetheart, Jo Rivera, by my side, on January 18, 2010.

And though they split a year later, the exes have settled into a comfortable co-parenting arrangement, Kailyn even hosting her Baby Mamas No Drama podcast with Jo’s wife Vee Rivera. “We’ve come a long way since we were 18,” Kailyn wrote on X after attending Jo and Vee’s 2018 wedding. “I couldn’t ask for a better stepmom for isaac.”

Regarding her eldest son, she penned on Instagram for his 13th birthday, “Growing up with him has been literal, but in certain aspects, he seems more mature than I do.” Expressing herself as an ardent fan of Olivia Rodrigo, a musician and basketball player, she described him as thoughtful, intelligent, humorous, and occasionally mischievous. The Delaware State alumna highly commended his compassionate nature.

In her words, “What truly motivates me about him is his ability to defy societal expectations.” She finds this admirable because he questions the status quo, forms unique perspectives, and remains open-minded. Additionally, Isaac embraces individuals for their authentic selves rather than molding them into expected roles. It’s her belief that more people should emulate him in this regard.

Lincoln Marshall Marroquin became part of the team on November 16, 2013, approximately one year following the wedding between Javi Marroquin (who was then a prominent figure) and his father from the show “Teen Mom 2”.

In the 2022 episode of her “Barely Famous” podcast, Kailyn characterized the tween as being highly enthusiastic about sports. This youngster devotes a considerable amount of his time participating in both basketball and football games. His 10th birthday party was themed after the NBA, reflecting his admiration for the player Allen Iverson.

It’s not surprising at all that he suggested a name for his youngest brother, given that he is a big basketball fan. As it turns out, the name Verse was inspired by Iverson, which Lincoln recommended. Kailyn shared this tidbit in a TikTok video posted in February 2024.

In her 2022 birthday tribute, it was written that he was like a star among siblings. The sentiment expressed was that “to know Lincoln is to love him,” due to his dedication, intelligence, good looks, and exceptional qualities as a brother.

Lux Russell Lowry has a fondness for football, wrestling, solving puzzles with Rubik’s Cubes, and listening to the music of Michael Jackson. These are just a few of the things he enjoys.

Kailyn’s first child, Lux, was born to her former partner Chris Lopez on August 5, 2017. Despite their relationship having its ups and downs for several years, she shared with TopMob News in 2020 that they currently do not communicate at all. She expressed hope that things might improve over time, but she does not have high expectations. She has no negative sentiments about the situation. Instead, she hopes for the best for their children, whatever the future may hold.

No matter which direction Lux moves, he quickly reaches his destination. In her words while organizing a WWE-themed party for his sixth birthday, Kailyn expressed, “Lux burst into our lives like a flash and has been keeping us on our toes every day since. I adore this little lion cub so dearly!

Prior to the July 30, 2020 birth of Creed Romello Lowry-Lopez, Kailyn grappled with a significant choice. “I concealed the pregnancy for such a long time because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do—whether I would keep the baby or not,” she confided in TopMob News shortly after his birth. “That was incredibly challenging for me, and I was truly struggling during that period.

Despite some challenges in her relationship with Chris (Creed’s father), a single look at the ultrasound image solidified her choice. Similarly to his older siblings, who expressed interest and affection towards the baby as Kailyn shared, “All three of them have asked to hold the baby and they’re super loving on him,” the podcaster was smitten with the baby from the very start.

In her note on his third birthday, she referred to him using various names – Romello, Mello, Romey, Rome, Biggie, Bigs. This special child was also celebrated at a WWE party with Lux. She expressed that no words could fully express her love for this vibrant little boy, so she would save the emotional expressions for real life interactions.

Kailyn clarified to People magazine that she preferred to share the news about her fifth child, Rio, born in November 2022, on her own timeline and in her own words.

Despite a challenging start to life, requiring care at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to breathing difficulties and lung fluid, he has proven to be an absolute delight as a baby.

First-time dad Elijah Scott deserves some props as well. “It’s been very different from my other partners and my kids’ other dads,” she said of her boyfriend. “He pours concrete, he gets down and dirty at work. But he’s also just a real family man. He’s very, very much connected with his own family, with our family, and so he’s been a really good partner to me, and I feel like it’s a really good match.”

It seems that her initial experience with Rio made her feel motivated to carry on the celebration. To put it simply, she found motherhood of four challenging compared to five, but she believes that was mainly because number four had a fiery personality. Number five, however, is exceptional and could be described as the perfect baby; if all her children were like this one, she might have even more than ten!

Cut to…

Teen Mom’s Kailyn Lowry Reveals Why Baby No. 5 Led to Leaving the Show

By the end of October 2023, Kailyn officially stepped into her motherhood phase with two new additions – Verse and Valley, who were born as her second and third kids with partner Elijah.

The valley, named after Kailyn’s childhood years spent in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, experienced a more extended stay at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) compared to her brother, as she grappled with certain feeding difficulties.

In a January 2024 episode of Barely Famous, Kailyn shared that she’d never encountered a newborn who didn’t wake up to eat or display hunger signs. Instead, this particular baby would sleep right through feeding times. She didn’t show any feeding cues and when attempts were made to feed her with a bottle, she wouldn’t take it.

Even though I’m still concerned about the twins’ connection following their prolonged separation (struggling to reforge their bond, so we can return to how things were before), I’m ecstatic that my family has been reunited and complete once more.

She remarked that she felt appreciative, contented, joyous, and whole. This positive circumstance has led us to expand our home. Indeed, we feel incredibly fortunate. They are wonderful infants.
