Police Find Mummified Man on Toilet Amid Search for Missing Woman

As a seasoned investigator with years of experience under my belt, I must say that this case is as bizarre as they come. The discovery of a “mummified” man in a California home is not something you stumble upon every day. It’s like a script straight out of a crime drama.

A missing person’s case in California has led to an unexpected—and gruesome—discovery.

In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I recently came across an intriguing piece of news. Back in August, Union City Police conducted an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a 95-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer’s. During their search, they stumbled upon an unexpected finding – what they referred to as a “mummified” man, discovered seated on the toilet in the home she once resided in. This fascinating detail was reported by the East Bay Times after they obtained the official police report.

The police were requested to inspect a house that was previously occupied by the missing woman for over two years by one of her relatives as part of the ongoing search. Upon inspection, they didn’t locate the woman in the house, but instead found old, dried-up remains in the bathroom.

Sergeant Brandon Hayward explained to local station KRON on October 23rd that it’s surprisingly usual to encounter individuals in the restroom, stating that it occurs more often than one might anticipate.

Hayward said the man’s body was likely on the toilet for weeks, if not months.

Officials suspect his death was due to natural causes and there’s no indication of any wrongdoing, as reported by KRON and KPIX. Moreover, they speculate that the deceased individual may have been one of the missing woman’s two boys.

The coroner’s office said results from a DNA test is pending, according to KPIX.

Lieutenant Sergio Quintero of the University of California Police Department stated to the East Bay Times that they approach every questionable death as if it’s a potential homicide initially. However, he clarified that, at this moment, the investigation isn’t pointing in that direction.

According to the police report, arriving officers noted that the house was overflowing with trash, swarming with flies, and carried an unpleasant odor. Additionally, a second individual, reportedly disheveled and seemingly struggling with some form of mental health issue, was discovered residing on the premises.

In the police report, it’s stated that the second individual, who turned out to be a close family member of the missing woman, initially resisted letting officers enter the residence. However, authorities managed to secure access to the house once this person was placed under an involuntary psychiatric evaluation.

According to KRON, it was reported that the missing woman was ultimately discovered safe, living near the elderly home where she currently dwells.

TopMob News has contacted the Union City Police Department for more details, but we are yet to receive a response.

In the police report, it’s stated that the second person (who turned out to be a close family member of the missing woman) initially resisted allowing officers inside their shared residence. However, investigators managed to enter the home later, following the individual being placed under an involuntary psychiatric evaluation.

According to KRON, the police confirmed that the woman who had gone missing was later discovered safe, located close to the assisted living facility where she currently stays.
