The host of Good Morning America, who has children Isabella (20) and Sophia (20) with ex-partner Jean Muggli, as well as Tanita (32) and Michael Jr. (31) with ex-wife Wanda Hutchins, spoke about the challenging experience of watching Isabella undergo treatment.
Michael went on saying, ‘What a whirlwind year it’s been! I believe there will be advantages in hindsight. The journey was far more terrifying than we anticipated – watching her emerge from surgery, and witnessing her learn anew. All one can do is hope for a return to normalcy.
He added, “There were times when we said, ‘We know it’s painful and tough, but it’s temporary.’”
How does Isabella, who’s just completed her third month of being cancer-free after resuming her freshman year at the University of Southern California, feel now? She mentioned that she still experiences double vision, struggles with weight gain and her balance seems unsteady, but these issues are improvements compared to how she felt previously.

But her dad made sure to look on the bright side of her growth.
Michael remarked, “Your experiences with vision and balance seem familiar to me.” He added, “Sooner or later, you’ll understand what it feels like to not want to add any more pounds. Just wait until life brings you to that stage where you think, ‘Oh, I don’t desire to grow heavier.’

Following radiation therapy, Isabella began undergoing chemotherapy to treat her cancer.
She expressed in her Feb. 16 vlog that her entire mouth feels as if she had a massive root canal procedure. Every tooth seems to have been uprooted and not even surgically reinserted. Her jaw and the bottom of her tongue are aching, and swallowing water causes pain too.
Despite the situation, the teenager maintained her positivity, humorously stating in a video shared a week later that her current hair length is “not enough.
“Besides being bald,” she said, “it doesn’t bring me pain mentally.”
Initially, Isabella’s second round of chemotherapy was set for early March, but an emergency surgery on her skull occurred first. During this procedure, doctors removed excess fluid from her head and replaced the original bone they had taken out with a titanium plate. This unexpected event caused her chemotherapy to be delayed by several weeks.
In her March 6 vlog, she expressed, “I am experiencing intense discomfort,” or simply, “I’m really hurting.” She added that her face is swollen significantly, which she found frustrating. Earlier in the day, she was in such pain that she yelled out loud.
In an effort to boost Isabella’s spirits during her treatments, her father, Michael, managed to get Bryson Tiller, a singer she admires, to drop by at their residence in New York City.
Michael playfully teased his daughter in her vlog, saying, “It seems like you haven’t been very active for a few months!
In a video posted on March 21st, Isabella announced that she had begun her second cycle of chemotherapy, which means she has only four sessions left to complete.
Amid her second chemotherapy round, Isabella said she began experiencing difficulties in walking.
In her March 27 vlog, she expressed that she struggles to walk without feeling dizzy or short of breath, and regretted that there’s no ‘exhaustion-relieving’ medication available for her to use.
After completing her second round of chemotherapy, the YouTuber posted an optimistic update indicating that she will now need to go through just two more sessions rather than the initially planned four.
She stated in a video posted on April 10, “Those are joyful tears,” she explained. “It’s more than just crying; it’s happy tears.
Initially, Isabella encountered an unexpected obstacle during her treatment course with the need for a third craniotomy operation. The teenager described this experience as significantly different from what she had faced before.
In her April 12 vlog, she confessed that she’s had quite a few emotional moments recently. She underwent a procedure where they inserted a needle into three places to drain fluid from her, all while she was wide-awake. This was her first such surgery experience.
