- GRASS airdrop launch disrupted after Phantom wallet faced nearly three-hour downtime
- Token prices fluctuated; it rebounded after an initial 28% drop post-launch
As a seasoned researcher who has witnessed numerous cryptocurrency events, I must say that the GRASS airdrop debacle was a rollercoaster ride for all involved. The three-hour downtime of Phantom wallet during the launch was reminiscent of the chaos that ensued when the internet first became mainstream and dial-up connections were the norm. Just as we grew accustomed to hearing the familiar sound of our modems screeching, users are now all too familiar with the frustration of service disruptions in the crypto world.
Users eagerly awaiting the GRASS airdrop from the Grass Network experienced a bumpy beginning, leading to disappointment and frustration when they ran into difficulties retrieving their allocated tokens.
What happened?
On October 28th, the sudden increase in user interest led to extended periods of unavailability for Phantom, a digital wallet service, as they struggled to handle the influx while distributing the GRASS tokens, leaving them offline for approximately three hours.
Based on the information provided by Phantom’s status report, there was an interruption in their services due to a problem on their back-end systems, which occurred at 1:36 PM (UTC). Normal operations were resumed at 4:20 PM (UTC).
This instance marks the second interruption in our services this month, occurring after an eight-minute blackout on October 3rd.
Remarking on the same, the Phantom team took to X and noted,
As your dedicated researcher, I’m here to inform you about a situation we’re navigating at the moment: we’re currently dealing with an uptime incident that might cause temporary disruptions to some of our services. If it’s crucial for you to complete a transaction promptly, I kindly advise you to overlook any simulation errors that may arise and attempt to use a dapp instead.
Users expresses frustration
Approximately an hour following the launch of the GRASS airdrop, many users flocked to platform X to voice their displeasure about not being able to obtain the distributed tokens.
A number of users have mentioned that even though their wallet addresses showed eligibility on Grass Network’s airdrop checker, they later received a message stating “ineligible.
As a crypto investor, I found myself puzzled and disheartened when an unforeseen technical hiccup delayed the distribution of my airdropped tokens. Still, I remain hopeful and patiently wait for the issue to be resolved.
Expressing disappointment about the same, an X user said,
Grass crypto’s airdrop plans
In reference to the current situation, this highly anticipated airdrop is being recognized as one of the major recent events. The Grass Foundation distributed 10% of the total 1-billion supply of GRASS tokens.
5% of the total amount is set aside for early closed alpha testers, while another 7% will be distributed among the participants from Epochs 1 to 7. (In other words, a portion of the total amount has been reserved for initial alpha testers, and an additional portion will go to participants during Epochs 1 through 7.)
Yet, the lack of provisions for the Bonus Epoch and future distribution strategies in the initial rollout has further exacerbated the discontent among backers. This is particularly true given their persistent worries about the model.
After making the necessary adjustments, Phantom shared on X that their team would keep a vigilant eye on the current state of affairs and take steps to minimize any potential future interruptions.
Is there more to it?
Just as anticipated, the GRASS token has experienced significant fluctuations in price following its debut. Immediately after it was launched, the token’s worth plummeted by 28% to reach a bottom at $0.65. However, it quickly bounced back by 9%.
As a researcher, I recently noticed an exciting development regarding GRASS’s price on CoinGecko. At the moment of reporting, GRASS was being traded at $1.10, marking a significant surge of 20.4% over the previous 24 hours.
It’s worth mentioning that many airdrops, including Hamster Kombat (HMSTR), have encountered their fair share of obstacles.
These examples show how intricate and sometimes stormy token distributions can be, especially during periods of high demand and when facing technical difficulties.
