In August 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and his wife who have been married for two years shared memories of the day they introduced their 23-month-old son, named Patrick “Bronze”, to nuts. Despite taking precautions due to their 3-year-old daughter’s allergies to peanuts, milk, and eggs, Bronze had an unexpected visit to the emergency room.
In a video posted on Instagram on October 29th, Brittany, who is expecting their third child with Patrick, emphasized the significance of food allergy awareness. She clarified that she had begun to introduce solid foods to Bronze, their youngest, considering Sterling’s history of allergies, and was experimenting with various options for him.
On that first day with nuts, the 29-year-old recalled adding “a little packet of powder” to his bottle to see what his reaction would be.
After drinking from his bottle, he grew increasingly agitated and picky within about half an hour,” she observed. “Upon removing his diaper, I found a multitude of hives and rashes all over his body.
The symptoms of the allergic reaction soon went up to Bronze’s face, which Brittany said “started a panic inside of” her. She added, “That’s when we rushed to the emergency room.”
Speaking from personal experience, witnessing someone’s entire physique engulfed in itchy welts and distressing hives was undeniably one of the most alarming instances I’ve ever encountered.
In sync with his wife’s feelings, Patrick, too at the age of 29, recollected the intense fear he experienced and how grave it seemed.
Fortunately, the doctors managed to assist, making it clear to him that this situation demanded his full focus and attention.
For quite some time, Brittany and Patrick have opened up about the measures they take to keep their children secure, given their severe allergies.
As a devoted mom to an infant and a toddler with serious food allergies, I strongly believe in spreading knowledge about what a severe allergy reaction might manifest as in a young child. From my personal journey, I want to emphasize that a critical reaction might not always present itself in the way you’d expect.
She added, “The safety of your child is of the utmost important thing when you’re out and about.”
