Death Stranding Director’s Cut Stealth Released on the Xbox Series X

As a long-time fan of Hideo Kojima’s masterpieces, I am absolutely thrilled to see “Death Stranding Director’s Cut” finally making its way to Xbox Series X|S! After years of being on the sidelines, Xbox gamers are about to embark on an incredible journey through a post-apocalyptic America.

This morning, Xbox Series X|S players are in for a delightful surprise – the Director’s Cut of ‘Death Stranding’ is now available on their platform! The game will typically retail at $39.99, but for the next two weeks, it’s being offered at half price, making it an affordable $19.99. Originally a PlayStation exclusive published by Sony, the game’s appearance on Xbox might have seemed improbable. However, following a press release (via Windows Central), it has been confirmed that Kojima Productions has acquired the rights to the Death Stranding intellectual property.

The enhanced Xbox version of “Death Stranding Director’s Cut” boasts achievements, 4K Ultra HD compatibility, and Play Anywhere functionality – a significant advantage for Xbox gamers. With Play Anywhere, you can play the game not only on your console but also on PCs running Windows 10/11. This is ideal for players who enjoy both console and PC gaming, as it allows them to continue their progress using cloud saves, seamlessly resuming from where they left off. For Xbox users new to “Death Stranding,” this appears to be an excellent starting point.

Originally debuting in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Death Stranding garnered significant critical acclaim and numerous award nominations. This game features Sam Porter Bridges as the main character, voiced by Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead. Two years later, the Director’s Cut was released on PS5, enhancing gameplay and adding new features that Xbox players can enjoy right away. Notably, there will be crossover content from both Cyberpunk 2077 and Half-Life in this version. Lastly, the Director’s Cut is compatible with ultra-wide monitors.

Kojima Productions has grand ambitions for the Death Stranding franchise over the coming years. The sequel, titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”, is due out in 2025. Initially planned as a PS5 exclusive, the situation might have altered since Kojima Productions gained full ownership of the IP. However, it’s speculated that PlayStation may still enjoy some form of temporary exclusivity. Yet, the specifics are uncertain. Furthermore, a Death Stranding film is under development by A24.

To put it simply, this is quite significant news for Xbox gamers. Hideo Kojima is renowned as one of the video game industry’s leading creators, and it’s exciting that a broader audience can now explore his creativity with Death Stranding. Additionally, this development may serve to keep Xbox enthusiasts hopeful who have been eagerly anticipating Kojima’s exclusive project OD, which has been relatively quiet since its unveiling at The Game Awards last year.
