As a long-time Uncharted fan who’s been following this series since its inception back in 2007, I must say that the recent upgrade of the classic Uncharted games to the PS5 is like discovering an ancient treasure map leading to my favorite gaming memories!
The original Uncharted games, starting with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (launched in 2007), have received a sudden update. Originally developed by Naughty Dog and PlayStation, the Uncharted series also included subsequent releases like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009) and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011), during the PS3 era. The fourth mainline game, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, came out in 2016, marking the conclusion of the series on the PS4. Since then, there has been no new content from this well-liked PlayStation franchise except for one spin-off release, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, in 2017.
There’s been whispers suggesting that PlayStation might be reviving the Ice series with a fresh installment, but so far, there’s no concrete evidence to back this up. However, what loyal Uncharted gamers on PlayStation can look forward to is an updated version of the game instead.
Following the launch of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, both Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy have received upgrades for the PS5. However, the first three games in the series have yet to receive any updates since the release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on the PS4 back in 2015.
Regrettably, despite expectations, the initial three Uncharted games in this set haven’t received a PS5 remaster yet, but they have been enhanced through the PS5 Pro upgrade instead.
According to posts made by Naughty Dog Central on social media platform X, the visual quality of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection has been improved on PS5 through PS4 Enhanced Resolution settings. Essentially, this means the game looks better when played on the PS5 Pro console. However, it’s important to note that this upgrade can only be experienced if you own the new Sony console, which goes on sale today for $700.
Absolutely, I’m not suggesting we’re getting a full-blown remaster or remake here for the Uncharted trilogy. What we’re seeing is more of an enhancement, and while it might not reach those heights, it’s definitely an upgrade worth noting. Naughty Dog Central has kindly shared some details, so you can check them out!
The Uncharted Collection (parts 1 through 3) is set to get a performance upgrade, thanks to enhanced resolution settings on PlayStation 4, according to Digital Foundry.
