As a seasoned gamer who’s been through countless controllers, I find myself torn between the GameSir T7 and its siblings. On one hand, the T7 is a budget-friendly gem that offers Hall Effect technology at an unbeatable price of $34.99. Its transparent design adds a unique touch to any gaming setup, making it a great choice for collectors or families with younger gamers.
GameSir has consistently shone in the affordable controller market, often gracing our lists of top Xbox contenders due to its cost-effective yet impressive products. However, with new models coming out frequently, it can be challenging to discern their differences. The recently launched GameSir T7 piqued my interest for a unique feature: it comes in two transparent versions (red and blue). Being an older millennial, I’m drawn to transparent gaming equipment. Additionally, at only $34.99, the T7 is not just visually appealing but also budget-friendly. Unlike Xbox’s transparent controllers such as Sky Blue Cipher, the T7 incorporates Hall Effect technology, a feature that GameSir has been implementing in their controllers while Xbox hasn’t yet. But aesthetics and price aside, the real question is: how does it perform? And how does it stack up against my preferred GameSir controllers like the SE G7 and GameSir Kaleid? Let’s delve into a review to find out.
GameSir T7: Pricing and availability
The GameSir T7 wired gamepad retails for $34.99 in the United States and £39.99 in the United Kingdom, marking it as the most affordable GameSir controller to date. You can purchase it from Amazon or directly through the GameSir website.
The box simply contains the controller and a long 3-meter cable, bright red for the Ruby Red controller, and a striking bright orange with the white version. This controller will work across multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One X|S, and Windows 10/11.
GameSir T7: What I liked
The GameSir T7 is a straightforward, budget-friendly controller that catches the eye due to its affordable price point of $34.99. This makes it not only one of the most cost-effective options in GameSir’s Xbox controller lineup but also among the least expensive ones available for Xbox, excluding some unauthorized and non-licensed designs on sites like Amazon and Temu.
The enclosed cable conveniently connects to your Xbox, and though it doesn’t have a braided design like some GameSir controllers, it appears robust and durable. However, its long-term durability remains to be seen. It’s reassuring that GameSir has included a 3.5mm audio jack with this product, as they occasionally omit them from their controllers, and many gamers still prefer wired headsets. Additionally, you can mute your headset directly from the controller, which is quite convenient.
This controller fits comfortably in your hand, featuring laser-etched textured grips at the back and a size similar to, if not slightly smaller than, typical Xbox controllers. It boasts four powerful rumble motors inside, and the triggers offer a responsive feel, although hardcore FPS gamers might prefer additional features. All in all, it’s quite user-friendly.
GameSir T7: What I didn’t like
The GameSir T7 provides decent worth considering its $34.99 cost, but it’s crucial to adjust your expectations due to its budget-oriented construction. Although the design is straightforward, it’s functional, the face buttons may not deliver the luxury sensation you might anticipate from pricier models. This shortcoming could be less significant if GameSir didn’t offer more sophisticated controllers like the GameSir G7 HE and GameSir Kaleid in their lineup. These models boast superior mechanical buttons, which are a clear improvement over the T7’s standard membrane buttons. Even the GameSir G7 SE, priced just $10 higher, offers a slightly more refined feel with membrane buttons. This makes the T7 appear somewhat underwhelming in comparison.
GameSir T7: The alternatives
The issue is that GameSir is essentially competing against its own products with the launch of the T7. Although the T7 is an affordable option at $34.99, it creates a situation where it will be directly compared to GameSir’s other offerings, such as the GameSir G7 SE. The G7 SE, priced at only $10 more at $44.99, provides significant upgrades with its rear buttons, enhanced durability, and premium-feeling D-pad and ABXY buttons. Moreover, the G7 SE now comes in a variety of bold colors—blue, orange, and purple—adding an appealing aesthetic that was missing from the original white model. Essentially, for a small additional cost, you’re getting a controller that feels superior in terms of quality.
On the other hand, if you prioritize cost, there are affordable alternatives such as the PowerA wired controllers which retail at $29.99. Unlike the T7, they don’t have Hall Effect technology, but this means that you should consider whether the improved accuracy and longevency offered by the T7’s Hall Effect sticks justify the additional cost. This is particularly relevant if you require a controller for heavy gaming or extended play sessions. Essentially, it boils down to deciding what you’re prepared to forego in exchange for the extra $5-$10—be it durability, added features, or the allure of a more luxurious construction.
GameSir T7: Should you buy it?
You should buy this if:
✅ You want a cheap and reliable controller for a child in the family
✅ You enjoy collecting transparent accessories
✅ You don’t mind using a wired controller
You shouldn’t buy this if:
❌ You play a lot of FPS games and need more features in your controllers
❌ You want a wireless controller
❌ You want rear buttons
To put it simply, the GameSir T7 is an affordable yet stylish controller that doesn’t disappoint, priced at just $35. What makes it stand out is the inclusion of Hall Effect technology, which is typically found in higher-priced models. I must say, I’m genuinely impressed with its performance given the budget-friendly price point. If you’re in search of a dependable controller without overspending, this would be my recommendation. It’s particularly suitable for those who are new to gaming and not yet ready to invest in more expensive controllers.
However, for adult gamers, I’d suggest spending a bit more—either on the GameSir G7 SE or the GameSir G7 HE. For just a little extra, you get a noticeably better build, more premium-feeling buttons, and crucially, back buttons, which I’ve found to be indispensable. While the T7 does the job, those willing to invest a bit more will appreciate the enhanced quality and added features with GameSir’s other models.
