As a seasoned cinema enthusiast who has spent countless hours engrossed in mystery novels and their film adaptations, I can confidently say that Moonflower Murders is a tantalizing prospect for any connoisseur of the genre. The return of Lesley Manville as Susan Ryeland, the tenacious editor-turned-sleuth, promises an intricate web of suspense and intrigue that will leave us on the edge of our seats.
This week, we’re fortunate as it’s the ideal time to immerse ourselves in the kind of captivating dramas perfect for cozying up with during these extended, chillier evenings. Luckily, Moonflower Murders will be available on our screens!
In the second series of “Magpie Murders,” the upcoming episode is based on the 2020 mystery novel with the same title, penned by renowned British author Anthony Horowitz.
Regarding the upcoming events in Moonflower Murders, actress Lesley Manville hinted: “What’s in store for Moonflower is quite surprising, particularly for Susan. A pair, the Trehernes – a mother and father with two daughters – visit the hotel in Crete as they are aware that Susan was the publisher of Atticus Pünd’s books.
The parents are in Crete seeking help from Susan, as their daughter has mysteriously vanished and eight years ago, a grisly incident occurred at their grand hotel on her wedding day. On that occasion, a guest was discovered deceased.
Prior to her disappearance, she had recently read “Atticus Pund Takes the Case,” a novel penned by Alan Conway. She seems to be aware of a past murder, which may have been a trigger for her mysterious vanishing eight years ago.
Manville went on: “Though it’s clear Susan isn’t a detective, she’s exceptionally well-versed in Alan Conway’s works, particularly the Atticus Pünd series. So they asked her to join them, offering £10,000, to travel to the UK and use her specialized understanding of the novel to aid them in uncovering what their daughter might have gleaned from it that led her to believe the incorrect person was imprisoned for a murder eight years prior.
Another factor that contributed to her vanishing was her longing for London and diving back into the world of Atticus Pund’s novels. Susan, in her words, stated, “We really need the money,” but the allure of returning to London seemed irresistible to her.
In this new installment, the character played by Manville once again assumes the lead as editor-turned-investigator Susan Ryeland, and Timothy McMullan reappears in his role as the fictitious detective Atticus Pünd.
In addition to Alexandros Logothetis, Daniel Mays, Claire Rushbrook, Conleth Hill, Matthew Beard, and Sanjeev Kohli, they rejoin the principal actors.
In addition to the original cast, Mark Gatiss, Rosalie Craig, Pippa Bennett-Warner, and Adrian Rawlins will be joining the team for Moonflower Murders.
“The tranquility of Susan’s life is shattered when a murder that occurred at a British countryside inn eight years prior resurfaces. A man named Alan Conway had stayed at the hotel, then wrote a book about the events that transpired there.
Cecily Treherne, one of the hotel managers, finished reading the book and felt that an innocent man was jailed. Recently, she’s gone missing.
“Can Susan uncover the secret hidden in the book and find Cecily before it is too late?”
