After reading about Gabriel Macht’s journey portraying Harvey Specter for nearly a decade, I can’t help but feel a sense of kinship with him. As a dedicated follower of TV dramas and a lover of well-crafted characters, I find myself drawn to the complexities and nuances that make each character unique.
Harvey Specter might lead a life of luxury, but Gabriel Macht isn’t interested in following.
In a candid disclosure, the actor from Suits shared that playing the polished corporate lawyer role for almost a decade frequently resulted in him bringing more and more aspects of his character into his personal life every evening.
Initially, if anyone on the set had been asked who resembled their character the least, they would’ve pointed at me, Gabriel shared with TopMob News during an exclusive interview. In reality, there was a laid-back version of myself that aimed to savor moments, avoid conflicts, enjoy life, adopt a live-and-let-live attitude, and refrain from stirring up or controlling situations.
However, the actor from “Because I Said So” confessed that as he delved further into his character and became more dedicated to the series, he noticed a gradual transformation. Instead of recognizing himself, he started identifying with “the individual who felt compelled to set particular goals and strive for specific achievements.
By the sixth season, the actor (who played alongside Gina Torres, Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle, and Sarah Rafferty in the USA drama from 2011 to 2019) acknowledged that his brother had begun to wonder if he was not much unlike his character anymore.
As I delved deeper, I found myself increasingly resembling Harvey. It was tough to discard some of the essence that enveloped me while immersed in that realm. By the end, I had transformed more into Harvey than at the beginning, which was one of the factors necessitating a break – to give him space to return to his original form.
2019 marked the end of a series where he portrayed a character for almost a decade, and this finale provided him with an opportunity to distance himself from the role. However, embracing qualities similar to Harvey didn’t automatically mean that Gabriel identified with his character’s questionable actions.
He stated, “When you analyze various aspects of the show, there are numerous fragments of myself that resonate with him, yet I reject much of his masculinity that promotes self-centeredness and dominance. I see him as being selfish and manipulative, but beneath this façade, he has a kind heart which is why we end up caring for him in the end.
One thing that Gabriel and Harvey do definitely have in common? A penchant for dark liquors like whiskey.
In his profession, one character I portrayed was associated with enjoying a drink, specifically whiskey. Harvey Specter, much like myself, would imbibe on certain joyful occasions and others when facing tough challenges, but always in a responsible manner.
For me, collaborating with Bear Fight Whiskey felt like a fitting chance, serving as a tribute to my previous roles, especially Harvey.
He shared that he’s been keen on joining at the earliest stage, “seizing the opportunity,” as he put it, “to invest in a team who are competent and embarking on a project that mirrors my beliefs.
He went on to say, “I found Bear Fight intriguing. The drink’s flavor is delightful, and the label with its fierce bear and claw image gives it an edgy vibe. It seems to challenge tradition, since whiskey is often associated with being an old-fashioned or traditional beverage.
And it’s been an exciting opportunity for Gabriel to extend his creativity.
He found it thrilling as being an actor often involves interpreting a writer’s words or a director’s perspective on a story in unique ways. In this case, however, he had the freedom to draw upon his own initiative and discuss the aspects he wanted to convey and what mattered most to him.
