Earlier this year, the creator of Stardew Valley promised a free upgrade for the Switch 2, and delivered on that promise with a Christmas Day release. Players who already own Stardew Valley on Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the enhanced version at no cost. However, it’s best to hold off on upgrading if you have a significant save file with important items. A fix for a serious bug in the Switch 2 version is being developed, so players should be aware of this issue before upgrading.
After the new version of Stardew Valley launched for the Nintendo Switch 2, players began reporting some problems. The game’s creator, Concerned Ape, quickly acknowledged the issues and confirmed a patch is coming. Until the patch is released, players should be careful when using certain crafting recipes, as they may cause items to disappear from their inventory. It seems players on the original Switch should also exercise caution.
Stardew Valley Players Urged to “Craft With Caution” For Certain Recipes

We’re still working on a fix for a bug in the latest Stardew Valley update on the Switch 2, and we don’t have a release date yet. The update will address a crafting issue and improve mouse controls. Until the update is available, players on both the Switch 2 and original Switch versions may encounter this bug, which could potentially cause problems with your saved items.
Barone shared a list of crafting recipes that seem to cause a bug where items disappear from your inventory during the crafting process. This means random items can be permanently lost from your game. Players should avoid using these recipes until the next update for Stardew Valley is released.
- Blue Grass Starter
- Challenge Bait
- Deluxe Bait
- Deluxe Worm Bin
- Fish Smoker
- Heavy Furnace
- Moss Soup
- Mushroom Log
- Speed-Gro
- Statue of Blessings
- Treasure Totum
Okay, so if you have to craft something, the game creator, ConcernedApe, recommends clearing out your inventory first. Basically, get rid of everything except what you actually need to make the item. That way, you won’t accidentally use up a valuable tool or something when you’re trying to craft! He also suggests you don’t use a workbench while crafting, just to keep things simple.
A fix for a crafting issue, along with better mouse controls, is being added to the Nintendo Switch version of Stardew Valley. I’m holding off on releasing the game in Europe until this update is ready because the crafting bug can cause players to lose their items.

This problem started with the Switch 2 update, but it’s now happening on the original Switch too. This is probably because both versions received an update on the same day the Switch 2 launched in the U.S.
The crafting bug should be fixed soon, but until then, please be careful when crafting anything, particularly items marked as needing extra caution. You could lose rare or valuable items like the horse flute. The game developer, Barone, often explains bugs with a humorous story element, and players are already curious about the reason behind this glitch. However, any explanation will probably come after the bug-fixing patch is released for Stardew Valley.
