Jude Law’s Skeleton Crew Character Is Modeled on Two Star Wars Icons

As a seasoned gamer and Star Wars enthusiast with a heart full of nostalgia for the ’80s, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Disney+ series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The prospect of Jude Law’s enigmatic Force-user character, Jod Na Nawood, brings a fresh breath of anticipation to the Star Wars universe.

This year, Lucasfilm is making another significant move with the upcoming Disney+ series, “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”. Co-created by Christopher Ford and Jon Watts, who directed “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, this series is expected to offer a fresh take on 1980s adventure films akin to “The Goonies”. Starring Jude Law in his first Star Wars appearance, the show will feature him as the enigmatic Force-user named Jod Na Nawood. While details about Law’s character are scarce, he recently shared with ComicBook that he drew inspiration for his performance from two iconic Star Wars characters.

Despite the assumptions of some fans, Jod Law’s character wasn’t heavily inspired by any previous Jedi characters from the Star Wars franchise. Instead, Law wanted to portray a complex character with various facets and moods. He aimed to make Jod appear cowardly at times, scoundrel-like at others, and heroic in different instances. The charisma that Harrison Ford brought to Han Solo in the first three films was something Law admired deeply. He wanted to capture a similar energy – world-weary, cynical, and self-centered – and hoped to incorporate some of these qualities into Jod’s character.

As a gamer, I’ve drawn inspiration not just from my character, but also from Lando Calrissian, Han Solo’s charming yet occasionally unfriendly rival. There’s something about his swagger and the humor that shines through, especially in Cloud City, that really caught my attention. These two characters have left a significant impact on me, and I wanted to infuse my character with some of their unique qualities while ensuring he remains original since he’s my creation.

Who Is Jod Na Nawood?

In the series ‘Skeleton Crew’, Law’s character, Jod, joins forces with the four principal characters who find themselves stranded in space. As they journey together, Jod’s hidden Force abilities begin to surface. At this point, however, the details of Jod’s origins are left unexplored for now. It is significant that ‘Skeleton Crew’ takes place post-‘Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi’, which means it’s near the end of the Galactic Empire’s oppressive rule. This closeness to the Empire’s reign stirs curiosity about Jod’s past and his possible connections to Force-related orders such as the Jedi and the Sith.

It’s likely that Law will keep his character’s details under wraps for a while, but in an interview with ComicBook, he hinted that viewers can expect to uncover Jod’s past as the series, Skeleton Crew, unfolds over its eight episodes. “What will eventually be shown is his childhood and possibly why he might have Force-sensitivity,” Law suggested cryptically. “And that’s all I can say.

When people watch “Skeleton Crew,” they can anticipate more than just thrilling swordplay, interstellar mischief, and exciting journeys; they’ll also find deep, thought-provoking reflections on one of the Star Wars universe’s most captivating and mysterious new Force wielders who has recently made an appearance.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew premieres December 3rd on Disney+.
