10. Lumines Arise

Games developed by Enhance are consistently exceptional, especially when it comes to music. With stunning visuals, careful design, and captivating rhythms, any game touched by Tetsuya Mizuguchi is a joy to experience. The recent revival of Lumines is no exception – it elevates the original game in the same way Tetris Effect did for Tetris. The music, created by Hydelic and Takako Ishida, is simply beautiful.

9. Ball X Pit

Okay, so this game, Ball X Pit, has this crazy addictive loop where you’re building a city and dying a lot, which is awesome. But honestly, I almost missed how incredible the music is! The composer, Amos Roddy, really nailed the vibe – it’s full of energy and life, and perfectly matches the game’s mix of serious moments and goofy fun. The way the gameplay works – building and dying repeatedly – actually lets the music swing between super intense tracks and really peaceful, reflective moments. It’s a surprisingly beautiful combination!

8. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Gordy Haab consistently delivers fantastic music for Lucasfilm projects. After creating memorable soundtracks for several Star Wars films, he’s now done the same for the latest adventure featuring the iconic hero with the whip. Haab’s score for this film feels like a natural extension of John Williams’ legendary work, and just as Troy Baker brilliantly embodied the character, the music perfectly captures the feel of the original movies.

7. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

The sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance improves on the original in almost every aspect, including the music. Jan Volta and Adam Sporka return to compose the score, delivering a beautiful and immersive orchestral soundtrack. The music perfectly captures the atmosphere of 15th-century Bohemia, often creating a sense of tension and foreboding, but also offering lighter, more cheerful moments when the story calls for it.

6. Dispatch

Despite claims to the contrary, episodic adventure games are still thriving! Dispatch, created by former Telltale developers, is a standout title where you manage a team of superheroes, sending them to tackle crimes that match their skills. The game’s soundtrack, composed by Andrew Arcadi and Skyler Barto, is just as impressive. It avoids typical superhero music tropes, opting instead for a unique blend of synth and industrial sounds, with surprising shifts into genres like yacht rock, piano ballads, and even atmospheric horror. The result is a captivating and unusual musical experience.

5. Hollow Knight: Silksong

Okay, so after ages of waiting, the sequel to Hollow Knight is finally here! I loved the music in the first game – Christopher Larkin did an incredible job – and he’s back for this one, and honestly, it’s just as good, if not better. The soundtrack for Silksong is HUGE – almost twice as big as the first game’s – but finding those beautiful, exciting, and slightly spooky tunes is still super easy. It’s everything I hoped for!

4. Ghost of Yōtei

The soundtrack to Ghost of Tsushima was stunning and perfectly matched the game’s beautiful open world. Now, the follow-up score for the next installment maintains a connection to the original while forging its own identity. Composer Toma Otowa’s music incorporates elements of classic Western scores, evoking a lone-gunman atmosphere, but uses traditional Japanese instruments to create a truly remarkable and impressive sound.

3. Sword of the Sea

I’m always excited when Austin Wintory releases new music, and his third collaboration with Giant Squid – after Abzu and The Pathless – doesn’t disappoint! This time, the game Sword of the Sea is a bit different – it’s kind of like a skateboarding game, which is a fun surprise. The soundtrack reflects that energy; it’s still very much Wintory with those beautiful piano and string arrangements I love, but it leans a little more into electronic sounds than his previous work. Honestly, it’s gorgeous, and there’s this really memorable theme that kept catching my ear while I was playing. It’s a fantastic score!

2. Silent Hill F

Hearing new music from the Silent Hill series is always exciting. Akira Yamaoka’s original soundtrack for Silent Hill 2 is legendary, and Silent Hill F offers a fresh take on the series’ sound. The resulting soundtrack is distinct within the franchise, created by both Kensuke Inage and Yamaoka. While it maintains the familiar atmospheric feel of Silent Hill, the new setting allows for a diverse range of sounds and textures, shaping a unique soundscape for this installment.

1. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Topping the list is Clair Obscur, a truly exceptional RPG created by the small French team at Sandfall Interactive. It’s been widely praised this year, and for good reason – its soundtrack is outstanding. Featuring beautiful string and accordion arrangements, and especially the captivating vocals of Alice Duport-Percier, the music consistently grabs your attention. That’s impressive considering the official score, composed by Lorien Testard, is over eight hours long! But don’t be daunted by the length; this is a musical journey you won’t want to miss.

There was so much amazing music released this year that it was hard to pick just ten favorites. Before we finish, we wanted to share a few more standout tracks.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Despelote
  • Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages
  • POOLS
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
  • Blue Prince

Hey everyone, I just wanted to get your thoughts on the soundtrack we’ve put together for 2025. Are there any songs you think we definitely should’ve included?
