The Bad Guys 2 Trailer Reveals First Look at Highly Anticipated DreamWorks Sequel

As a die-hard fan who has followed “The Bad Guys” crew since their debut in 2022, I can confidently say that the release of the trailer for “The Bad Guys 2” feels like Christmas coming early! The first film was an absolute delight, introducing us to a group of criminals with hearts of gold. The sequel seems to be promising more of the same antics, along with a fresh twist: an all-female gang of robbers who force our beloved heroes into their old ways once again.

On Thursday, a sneak peek at The Bad Guys 2, the upcoming sequel from Universal and DreamWorks Animation, was unveiled. It previews their next grand scheme. The storyline shows the original gang attempting to reform themselves, only to be coerced into another major heist by a group of female criminals. The film is slated for release on August 1, 2025.

In the sequel to “The Bad Guys,” five years have passed since the events of the first movie, and it seems that “The Good Guys” are facing a bit of a rut. They’re not quite ready to revert to their old ways but can’t entirely be trusted either, causing them some trouble. However, things take a turn when a fresh gang of thieves apprehends them. The cast includes Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson, and Anthony Ramos reprising their roles, with Danielle Brooks joining as Kitty Cat, Natasha Lyonne as Doom, and Maria Bakalova as Pigtail making their debut.

In 2022, the film “The Bad Guys” made its debut, introducing us to a band of crooks headed by Mr. Wolf (Rockwell), who also includes the safecracker Mr. Snake (Maron), the hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), the master of disguise Mr. Shark (Robinson), and the muscle Mr. Pirhana (Ramos). This infamous gang is known for their daring heists, but an unexpected twist occurs when Mr. Wolf experiences a sense of fulfillment from helping others, leaving him unsure whether he wants to continue with criminal activities or assist the public, as his feelings fluctuate scene by scene. However, they eventually manage to rebuild their tarnished reputation by the end of the movie.

From the look of the trailer, it seems that the crew in the upcoming sequel may be growing weary of their new roles, with even Mr. Wolf expressing some dissatisfaction. However, they seem to be reluctant to revert back to their old ways, and there appears to be disagreement among them as to whether this is a good idea or not. In the sequel, Zazie Beetz will reprise her role as Governor Diane Foxington, while Alex Borstein returns as Police Commissioner Misty Luggins.

The Bad Guys derives its inspiration from a series of children’s books authored by Aaron Blabey, an Australian writer. Both films are helmed by Pierre Perifel, who expressed his desire to revisit this tale for a follow-up. DreamWorks made the announcement for the second part as early as March. As part of a long-term agreement between Universal and Netflix, when it becomes available on home video, it will stream on Peacock for four months before moving exclusively to Netflix for the subsequent 10 months.

We won’t have the chance to watch “The Bad Guys 2” until August 1, 2025. However, you can catch the original movie right now on Amazon Prime Video.
