The Simpsons Previews Pamela Hayden’s Final Milhouse Performance: Watch

As a dedicated fan who has grown up with Springfield as my second home, it’s bittersweet to bid farewell to Pamela Hayden, the voice behind Milhouse, Rod Flanders, Todd Flanders, and Jimbo Jones. Thirty-five years is an impressive run, and it’s hard not to feel a pang of nostalgia as we prepare to say goodbye to this integral part of The Simpsons universe.

Previously this week, aficionados of The Simpsons learned that Pamela Hayden, a long-lasting voice artist on the show who played characters such as Milhouse, Rod Flanders, Todd Flanders, and Jimbo Jones, would be bidding farewell to the series. Having been part of the cast for more than thirty-five years, Hayden has one last episode left before retiring comfortably. The episode titled “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes” is set to air this coming Sunday, November 24th and includes a sneak peek at Hayden’s final portrayal of Bart’s friend.

Though Pamela Hayden is departing the series, Milhouse, Jimbo, Rod, and Todd are set to return in “The Simpsons,” as the Fox animated show intends to replace the characters, much like they’ve done with numerous Springfield greats throughout their history. As for the question of this season being the final one, Season 36 has been confirmed, and while Season 37 hasn’t yet been announced, it seems that “The Simpsons” could continue for quite a while longer.

The Simpsons: Goodbye Milhouse

In revealing that she was retiring from the long-running animated series, Pamela Hayden commented on leaving The Simpsons and how difficult it will be to never play the part of Milhouse Van Houten, ““The time has come for me to hang up my microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons?……not easily.  It’s been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show, and to give voice to Milhouse and Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, Janey, Malibu Stacy, and many others.”

Hayden went on to say, “Cheers to everyone who helped make this wonderful journey of mine happen. Thank you for the past 35 years! Stay well and happy. My warmest regards to each and every one of you. P.S. That blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses will always hold a special place in my heart.

Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, expressed his thoughts about Milhouse and Hayden’s portrayal of the character for over three decades. He said, “Bart needed a friend to chat with during school lunches. We chose the name Milhouse because it was the most unfortunate name for a kid. Pamela brought us countless laughs as Milhouse, the clumsy kid with the gigantic nose in Springfield. She made Milhouse both funny and relatable, and we will deeply miss her.

A New Milhouse?

In future episodes of The Simpsons, Milhouse Van Houten will be played by a new actor, although it’s not yet clear who that will be since the decision hasn’t been officially made. It’s also uncertain whether Milhouse will appear in this season or if he’ll take a break for the rest of season 35. Over time, several characters’ voices on The Simpsons have changed, but Hayden has consistently portrayed Milhouse.

Milhouse, though not an official family member in The Simpsons, has frequently provided some of the show’s most hilarious scenes. Despite often being the target for jokes, his character, skillfully played by Hayden, will undoubtedly be dearly missed by long-standing fans of this cherished series.
