Emmerdale’s Mike Parr on future Ross romance: ‘No one will live up to Donna’

As a long-time Emmerdale fan, I find myself deeply connected to Ross Barton’s character, particularly his complex relationship with Donna Windsor. The raw emotion that Mike Parr portrayed during those final scenes was nothing short of captivating and left a lasting impression on me.

It appears that Ross Barton won’t likely enter into a lasting romance for the near future, at least not if actor Mike Parr has any influence on the matter.

In a simpler and more conversational manner: Ross, known for his mischievous ways, recently came back to the Emmerdale village this fall, causing strife among the locals and leaving a wake of chaos in his path. This eventually leads to April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) being abducted by boxing promoter Jade and her henchmen.

Being an avid Emmerdale fan, you might recall that April, a character I deeply empathize with, is the offspring of Donna Windsor (played by Verity Rushworth). In 2014, heart-wrenchingly, Donna made a selfless choice to sacrifice herself in an attempt to safeguard her daughter and the love of her life, Ross.

Though Ross has been involved with several women in the village, including the latest arrival Steph (Georgia Jay), none can compare to Donna in the hearts of the locals.

He reflected on the time he went to film those final scenes between Ross and Donna, recalling that director Duncan Foster told Parr that Donna “is the only girl” that has ever loved Ross.

Parr stated, “His mother’s postnatal depression and the tragic event where she lost him as a child made it difficult for him to have a strong bond with her. As a result, no one compares to Donna in his perception.

Asked more about whether Ross might find a partner in the village later on, Parr clarified that he prefers Ross to continue living as a solitary figure.

As for me, Mike, reaching the age of 40, and Ross being only 34, doesn’t it seem a bit melancholic how Ross lives, and might viewers tire of this depiction?

Yet, Parr takes pleasure in exploring all aspects of Ross, and if maintaining his singleness is a part of that, so it will be.
