The biggest buzz is around the new trailer for the X-Men’s Doomsday, which features Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellan as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Other X-Men characters will also appear, and there’s talk that Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey might be back. The trailer suggests things aren’t looking good for the X-Men, with Professor X and Magneto talking about death and Cyclops appearing deeply saddened – possibly because Jean Grey is in danger again. All of this seems to be leading up to the massive Avengers: Secret Wars event, but it’s unclear why the X-Men are so central to the story.

The animated series The Medalist first launched on Hulu last year, telling the story of two figure skaters, Inori Yuitsuka and Tsukasa Akeuraji. The first season, created by Studio ENGI, was a hit with thirteen episodes and has led to a second season. Joining popular anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Oshi no Ko, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and Hell’s Paradise, The Medalist returns this month. And fans won’t have to wait long after that, as Studio ENGI plans to release a movie in 2027. It’s currently unclear whether the movie will be a brand new story or a recap of the previous seasons, but the series has the potential to succeed with either approach.

I just read in The Hollywood Reporter that Maya Powell is going to be starring in a new sci-fi film called Tesseract! Even more exciting, it’s being directed by Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot, and she’s also producing it. Unfortunately, they’re keeping the plot completely under wraps for now, but I’m already really intrigued!

Brigada Games and Devolver Digital released Quarantine Zone: The Last Check on January 12th. The game offers a fresh take on the post-apocalyptic zombie genre with its first-person simulation gameplay. Players seem to be enjoying this new approach, as Quarantine Zone has consistently attracted between 20,000 and 27,000 concurrent players daily since its release. This is a strong performance for a new indie game that doesn’t rely on cooperative gameplay. According to Steam DB, these numbers have kept Quarantine Zone near the top of Steam’s trending charts for multiple days. The question is, what’s keeping players coming back?
