Absolute Wonder Woman’s Skeleton Pegasus Origin Makes Him Even Cooler

As a lifelong Wonder Woman fan, I must say that Absolute Wonder Woman #2 has truly taken my breath away. The introduction of Pegasus, not just as a mythical creature but as the actual, legendary Pegasus, was an electrifying twist that sent shivers down my spine.

In this new interpretation of the legendary character, Wonder Woman, fans were presented with a refreshed version of the iconic hero, complete with significant updates. Among these modifications, one particular scene left an indelible impression – Wonder Woman charging into battle atop a striking skeletal Pegasus. This unique image has sparked anticipation, as it’s set to be recreated by Todd McFarlane in the DC Multiverse figure line. However, Absolute Wonder Woman #2 manages to make this Pegasus even more captivating, and we’ll delve into all the intricate details that follow, keeping spoilers in mind.

After lowering Steve Trevor’s arrogant commander, Wonder Woman steps outside to converse with Pegasus. Intrigued, Trevor inquires if he can touch him. At this point, Wonder Woman discloses that his name is indeed Pegasus, a fact that Trevor duly acknowledges. It’s then that Wonder Woman explains, “Steve, my flying horse is none other than the legendary winged horse, Pegasus, birthed from Medusa’s blood and struck down by Zeus.

Indeed, it’s not just any Pegasus, but the very one from mythology, and in this portrayal, Pegasus was slain by Zeus. As Trevor points out, this accounts for the predominantly bony structure of Pegasus, yet as Wonder Woman emphasizes, Pegasus is much more than merely “um…bones.

Trevor questions how Pegasus can be alive since he was killed, and Wonder Woman responds that it’s magic and sacrifice – much like Trevor himself. This implies that Diana may have a way to resurrect both Pegasus and Trevor. While we know Diana has magical abilities from her mother Circe, the ‘sacrifice’ part is uncertain. We’ll need to discover what exactly was given up for this power.

In Absolute Wonder Woman, magic plays a significant role – in fact, it’s the key element that unlocked the grander vision that unfolded later. In an earlier conversation with ComicBook, author Kelly Thompson discussed how magic not only influenced the storyline but also impacted Diana on a personal level.

As a gamer, when I stumbled upon Witch Wonder Woman, it hit me like a bolt out of the blue, and suddenly everything clicked. I can’t go into detail about other aspects, but that’s the essence. What followed was an incredible transformation. We managed to preserve Diana’s soul, compassion, and core, yet we revolutionized her world, making it wild, cool, intriguing, and fresh.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my heartfelt gratitude to Hayden for their pivotal role in making our collaboration a success. Frankly, I can’t imagine working with anyone else. They’ve brought such an extraordinary depth and originality to our project, pouring so much of themselves into it that it resonates deeply.
