As a seasoned crypto investor with over a decade of experience in this dynamic digital frontier, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and vindication upon hearing the news that Craig Wright’s appeal to prove his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto has been rejected yet again. Having closely followed Wright’s “Faketoshi” saga since its inception, I must admit that it was like watching a train wreck in slow motion – captivating, but with an undercurrent of unease and disbelief.
In simpler terms, the British Court of Appeals declined Craig Wright’s request to challenge an earlier decision by the High Court stating that he is not the true identity behind the pen name Satoshi Nakamoto, who invented Bitcoin.
Hodlonaut, a well-known figure in the Bitcoin community who frequently discusses the “Faketoshi” controversy involving Craig Wright, announced on November 29th that Wright’s request for permission to appeal was harshly rejected.
As per the court’s findings, Wright allegedly presented spurious claims about being Nakamoto, some of which were thought to have been fabricated using artificial intelligence.
The most recent court verdict concludes the prolonged dispute concerning Wright’s numerous lawsuits, aimed at demonstrating his role in the creation of Bitcoin.
Wright’s “falsehoods” appear to be “AI-generated hallucinations”
According to the recent decision by the UK Court of Appeal, the arguments presented in Wright’s appeal were found to contain numerous untruths. These errors included references to some non-existent legal precedents or authorities.
One instance referenced by the court was a case known as Anderson v. the Queen [2013] UKPC 2, which the court suggested seemed to involve hallucinations that appeared to have been generated by artificial intelligence.
The court declared that the claims are questionable at first glance and even more doubtful considering the judge’s assessment of Dr. Wright’s trustworthiness. Furthermore, they stated that these appeals have no chance of winning, and there is no compelling reason for further consideration.
Eight years of “Faketoshi” saga
1970 saw the birth of a notable figure, Christopher Wright, who hails from Australia. As a computer scientist and entrepreneur, he’s made his mark in the tech world. Since at least 2016, Wright has publicly proclaimed himself as Nakamoto, stating that he is the brainchild behind Bitcoin’s creation.
Critics within the cryptocurrency sphere have challenged Wright’s assertions, with notable figures like Hodlonaut labeling him as a “deceiver” and a “swindler.” However, Wright, also known as “FakeSatoshi” in Bitcoin’s online forums, didn’t back off from his claims.
Through the course of several years, he has initiated multiple defamation lawsuits against individuals like Hodlonaut, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Adam Back, podcaster Peter McCormack, and numerous others. However, a significant portion of these legal actions ended in unfavorable outcomes or were dismissed for Wright.
In May, Judge James Mellor of the UK High Court of Justice determined that Craig Wright was not Satoshi Nakamoto. This decision was made in a lawsuit filed against Wright by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a group of companies who alleged that Wright had falsified evidence to support his assertion that he was Nakamoto.
Due to Wright’s lack of credibility as Bitcoin‘s inventor, international investigators and reporters have been diligently working to uncover Nakamoto’s true identity.
In October, a documentary on HBO implied that Canadian Bitcoin core developer Peter Todd could be the hidden inventor of Bitcoin. However, following this claim, Peter Todd himself stated that he is not Satoshi Nakamoto, which sparked suspicion within the Bitcoin community.
