My Hero Academia Based One Hero Off Surprising Spider-Man Star

As someone who has been immersed in the world of manga and comics for as long as I can remember, it’s always fascinating to see the connections between different universes. Kohei Horikoshi’s love for the Marvel Universe is evident in his work, and it’s no surprise that he found inspiration from the Spider-Verse when creating Neito Monoma. The resemblance between Monoma and Dane DeHaan’s Harry Osborn is uncanny, and it adds an interesting layer to the character.

Over time, it’s been evident that the creator of My Hero Academia, Kohei Horikoshi, has had a deep affection for “super hero” themes. In our previous conversations with him, the mangaka showed great enthusiasm for the Marvel Universe and was eager to delve into Spider-Man’s past storylines. Interestingly enough, in a recent interview, Horikoshi has disclosed that one character from UA Academy was intentionally designed as a tribute to the Spider-Verse, and it turns out, it’s not Sero he’s referring to.

In an exciting revelation during an interview, I, as a die-hard fan, discovered that Kohei Horikoshi modeled the character Neito Monoma, the Quirk-stealing mastermind from My Hero Academia, after a character from the Spider-Verse. Unlike our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, who doesn’t have the power to adopt other super abilities, Horikoshi drew inspiration from another beloved Marvel character for Monoma’s unique ability. The visual design and aesthetic of Monoma were influenced by Dane DeHaan, the talented actor who portrayed Harry Osborn in Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Although Harry would eventually transform into the Green Goblin in the final film of the series, his captivating appearances in the sequel left a lasting impression on Horikoshi and paved the way for the creation of the Copycat hero.

The Amazing Monoma

In a recent interview, Horikoshi delved deeper into his creative process when designing beloved characters, such as Monoma, the Copycat Hero. Instead of using a Goblin Glider, Monoma’s style is reminiscent of the son of Norman Osborn. After explaining how Monoma came to be, Kohei stated, “When I create characters, I usually combine elements from various individuals and narratives. As a result, each character has some sort of inspiration behind them.” You can watch the interview by clicking on the link below:

A Spider-Man/Class 1-A Crossover Isn’t That Crazy

Although the manga of My Hero Academia concluded its run earlier this year, its impact on the anime industry is likely to remain significant. With Studio BONES set to release the eighth and final season next year, creator Horikoshi continues to contribute new artwork for his popular shonen series. Given previous appearances of these characters, it’s not entirely implausible that Deku and his companions could join forces with Marvel’s iconic superheroes in the future.

Absolutely, we’re talking about “Deadpool: Samurai,” the initial Marvel manga series starring the infamous Merc with a Mouth. In this ongoing storyline, Wade Wilson collaborates with none other than All Might to confront Thanos, the Mad Titan. Although their collaboration is temporary, it hints at the possibility of Class 1-A encountering more Marvel characters in the future.

In recent times, Marvel Comics has been delving into the world of manga. Given this trend, it’s no surprise that everyone’s favorite wall-crawler, Spider-Man, would also get his own manga series. The title “Spider-Man: Fake Red” is now available for both manga and Marvel enthusiasts to explore a fresh narrative centered around the Web Slinger. However, in this story, Peter Parker is absent from his signature red and blue suit. Instead, we find a Spider-Man without powers keeping watch over the city streets as Parker himself is nowhere to be found.
