Is Path of Exile 2 on Xbox?

As a long-time fan of action RPGs and someone who has spent countless hours in the original Path of Exile, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming release of Path of Exile 2 on Xbox! It’s always exciting to see my favorite games make their way onto new platforms, especially when they’re as well-regarded as Path of Exile.

Indeed! Similar to its predecessor, Path of Exile 2 will be playable on consoles, but it won’t be supported on the Xbox One.

Owners of the Xbox Series X|S will have the opportunity to start playing the initial release of Path of Exile 2, as it becomes available on December 6, which is also the date it launches across all other platforms.

Path of Exile 2 is coming to Xbox, initially in Game Preview

Similar to its predecessor, Path of Exile 2 will also be playable on Xbox. However, it’s important to note that it will only be released for the latest generation consoles. Considering the anticipated longevity of the game, this decision seems reasonable.

Firstly, the Xbox edition will debut as part of Xbox Game Preview, similar to Steam’s Early Access, while the PC version is set for release.

The game goes live on December 6 on all platforms, but if you’re on Xbox, you can pre-download the game already ahead of time. The developers warn that there will likely still be updates at launch, but since it’s showing as needing 100GB of storage space, getting that early installation done will definitely help.

Path of Exile 2 can be played individually or in teams of up to six players. Notably, it will allow cross-platform play, which means you can team up with friends who are using PS5 or PC. Additionally, your character progression will carry over if you switch between different platforms.

Path of Exile 2 is a separate game, but still free-to-play

Despite the impending launch of Path of Exile 2, the initial game will continue to exist. Grinding Gear Games intends to keep it active and ensure that players of both versions enjoy their experience and receive fair treatment.

In the future, we’ll have new content for both Path of Exile 2 and the original Path of Exile. Both versions are standalone games and are entirely free, without any ‘pay-to-win’ mechanics. Any purchases you make will work in either game.

In this game, you can play at no cost, but there are optional in-game items available for purchase. These include an early access supporter bundle. By avoiding pay-to-win mechanics, it’s more appealing to make some purchases to support the developers. Plus, the original and sequel games have a connection where purchases made in one game can be shared across both.
