My Hero Academia Creator Teases Their Next Manga (& It’s Coming Soon)

As a dedicated fan of Kohei Horikoshi’s breathtaking storytelling and captivating artwork, I am absolutely thrilled to learn about his upcoming endeavors! Despite the conclusion of “My Hero Academia,” it is heartening to know that our beloved mangaka is far from retiring. His passion for creating compelling narratives and intricate visuals shines through in every project he undertakes, and I eagerly await the unveiling of his new manga.

For more than a decade, Kohei Horikoshi has been crafting the tale of Izuku Midoriya and his peers at UA Academy’s Class 1-A. After wrapping up “My Hero Academia” manga series, Horikoshi is far from taking it easy in the world of manga. In addition to producing new artwork for his cherished shonen series, he has revealed that he’s actively working on an entirely fresh manga. Intriguingly, Horikoshi hinted at this during a conversation with Marvel Comics, suggesting that his tenure as a mangaka is far from over and offering tantalizing glimpses into the events following Class 1-A’s triumph.

To kick off the interview with Marvel, Horikoshi confirmed that his favorite hero in the North American comic book publisher’s roster is Peter Parker, aka Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. On top of creating new art work of Spidey hanging with Deku and All Might, Kohei explained his history with the wallcrawler, “I’ve always wondered what it means to be a hero, especially when I was writing My Hero Academia. At some point, I finally came to the conclusion that what that means is being a strong part of a community, helping a friendly neighborhood, which is why I respect Spider-Man so much.”

A New Chapter For My Hero Academia’s Creator

Although Kohei Horikoshi didn’t explicitly disclose the theme of his upcoming manga, he did affirmatively state that he has an idea in progress. “I feel incredibly fortunate about the success of My Hero Academia, so I’m aware of the high expectations surrounding my next step. As soon as I can, I plan to initiate a new manga.” Previously, the creator of My Hero Academia has suggested an interest in exploring a horror manga genre, but he does not reveal any details about his potential next project in this statement.

Kohei did not specify a timeline for the release of his upcoming project, but he confirmed that he will both write the story and draw the art. Unfortunately, Horikoshi is focusing on “My Hero Academia” until its anime concludes, so the new series may not be coming out soon. Kohei initially intended to only illustrate the next project while someone else wrote the story, but his editor suggested it would be better if he handled everything himself. As a result, Kohei has begun writing and sketching the initial draft of his new manga. However, there are still significant developments happening with “My Hero Academia,” so for now, Kohei will continue to work on it.

A Marvel/My Hero Crossover

Although no official project has brought together all members of UA Academy with Marvel’s top heroes, the unforeseen crossover in “Deadpool: Samurai” took fans by surprise. In this storyline, Wade Wilson partnered with the former Symbol of Peace, All Might, to battle the Mad Titan Thanos. Although it hasn’t been confirmed if the Deadpool manga will receive an anime adaptation, seeing this team-up on screen could significantly impact the anime world. As Marvel ventures further into the realm of manga, it will be intriguing to discover which other superheroes will get their own series in the future.
