Brian Posehn Teases Epic Santa Battle on Lopez vs Lopez Christmas Episode

As a lifelong fan of comedy and all things superhero, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia when it comes to tonight’s episode of Lopez vs. Lopez. The prospect of George squaring off against Mall Santa, played by the hilarious Brian Posehn, promises to be a Christmas spectacle like no other.

Tonight’s fresh episode of NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez promises a riotously funny Christmas spectacle, but for George, it’s anything but a joyful holiday. This is because George rekindles an old grudge against Santa, and this year, his target is the jovial Mall Santa portrayed by Brian Posehn (The Big Bang Theory). In anticipation of their festive face-off, ComicBook got the opportunity to interview Posehn about the action-packed confrontation with George, collaborating with the Lopez team, and his passion for Marvel and DC, including his all-time favorite Batman film.

Despite having numerous roles under his belt throughout his career, Brian Posehn has yet to embody the role of a Mall Santa, although it’s unclear if he was simply a mall Santa or the traditional North Pole Santa. In any case, he expressed enthusiasm about the part, as everyone on set seemed to be impressed by his first-time portrayal of this specific character, despite his extensive background in comedic roles.

Regarding the conflict, George deeply cares about it and viewers will witness this intense rivalry unfold, complete with some daring stunts. In other words, George has long harbored resentment towards Santa, which is clearly depicted in the series. You’ll see us engaging in scenes that might leave you amazed, such as a 6-foot-7 man performing actions that seem impressive. However, it’s important to note that a stuntman was assisting me during these scenes, but the experience was thrilling nonetheless.

Performing alongside George was fantastic! We’d crossed paths years earlier, and I’ve always admired him within the comedy scene, knowing he’s among the greats. Being part of the show itself was a joy, but what made it even better was our immediate connection. I believe our camaraderie shines through in our scenes, showcasing the fun we shared.

The entire crew warmly received Posehn, and it wasn’t just Lopez who was a recognizable face from the comedy circuit on the program. Posehn expressed that everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly, stating, “You truly feel like you’re part of a family while you’re there, and it seemed like they had been working together for a decade, not just three seasons.” Posehn continued, “I enjoy shows where everything runs smoothly, and I felt fortunate to be included. They clearly know what they’re doing, and everyone was having a great time. Additionally, I’ve known Al Madrigal from the stand-up scene for years, so I was aware he was on the show. It was exciting, and we had a fantastic time.

Brian Posehn has expressed interest in returning to a project sometime in the future, which is something he’s known for – a strategy that seemed to pay off in his past works such as NewsRadio and The Big Bang Theory.

Absolutely! Here’s my take on paraphrasing the statement:

In simpler terms, Posehn mentioned that his experience with The Big Bang Theory started off informally. The initial appearance was a small scene in the cafeteria where his character wasn’t even named. However, it was set up that he worked at the school as a professor. Later on, his character became Bert in the second and third appearances. But, when they asked him to return for the first time, he was more than happy to oblige, saying something like, “Sure, just give me a call whenever you need me.

2024 saw some significant comic book and superhero releases, and 2025 promises an even more exciting year in this genre. Despite the upcoming movies featuring Superman and Captain America, Posehn doubts anything can surpass the success of Deadpool and Wolverine from this year. “I’m curious to see how anyone can outdo Deadpool and Wolverine, given that we made one of the best superhero films ever in 2023,” Posehn expressed. “I’m eagerly waiting to discover what new releases are in store for me.

For quite some time now, I’ve been a dedicated fan of all things geeky, and it’s truly remarkable to live in an era overflowing with Marvel and DC productions. Ever since I was about seven or eight, I’ve been captivated by Spider-Man and Batman. Over the years, I’ve followed both these companies religiously, and fortunately, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with Marvel. Nowadays, it’s thrilling to witness the emergence of series like Werewolf by Night, characters that were once considered unimaginable to have their own shows or movies. Similarly, I’ve long admired Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, and it’s a joy to be alive at a time when there’s such an abundance of superhero content available.

When asked about the new DC movie universe featuring Grant Morrison’s work on the big screen and who his preferred movie Batman was, Posehn shared his thoughts: “Well, I enjoy Grant Morrison’s writing. I don’t have any personal investment in those movies, but I’m just glad they’re making Batman films. I prefer the Nolan series and the first Pattinson film. I haven’t seen ‘Penguin’ yet to prepare for the next Batman movie, but I plan on watching it soon as part of the show. However, my all-time favorite remains Michael Keaton, although it’s difficult because Adam West was my initial introduction to Batman. Somewhere between Catwoman and Daredevil in terms of the quality of that Flash film he appeared in, but his scenes in it were fantastic. He’s one of my favorite actors, and while others may have played Batman, Keaton is unbeatable for me.
