Rocksteady is killing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League with a final update in January — but it’s getting a highly-requested feature

  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Season 4 is its last seasonal update.
  • In December, the game is getting playable character Deathstroke.
  • There’s also an offline mode coming with Season.

As a longtime gamer who has seen the rise and fall of many games, I must say that the announcement of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s final update feels bittersweet. While it’s always sad to see a game reach its end, especially one with such potential, it’s heartening to know that the offline mode is coming along with Season 4.

There’s a lot to unpack in the final update to Rocksteady’s 2024 supervillain team-up game.

In January 2025, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will receive its final major update, wrapping up season 4 by introducing Deathstroke as the last playable character. This legendary mercenary, recognized as Slade Wilson, is outfitted with anti-gravity technology for swift aerial movement, and his proficiency with both edged weapons and firearms makes him an adaptable threat in any scenario.

In this last season, the story revolves around an alternate world resembling the Middle Ages, which is under attack by Brainiac. This presents a shift in tone as the team adapts to their unfamiliar environment.

Apart from the upcoming Season 4, the game is also introducing an offline play mode. According to Rocksteady and WB Games in their Season 4 breakdown, the servers will remain online for now. However, the offline mode ensures that players can continue enjoying the single-player content indefinitely, regardless of any future changes.

Reaction: A decent end for a game that never found its footing

In contrast to Rocksteady’s previous Batman series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League showcased an innovative shift towards a living service platform and a seasonal approach, ensuring ongoing player interaction and engagement.

The game, released back in February this year, received a blend of positive and negative feedback, and despite an impressive start in terms of sales – it managed to rank among the top 20 best-selling games of the year in the U.S. as of October – player interaction soon declined significantly. Warner Bros. subsequently confessed (via Business Insider) that they are projected to incur a loss of approximately $200 million on this title.

Although it’s unfortunate that Season 4 signals the end of game updates for those who loved their time with it, the inclusion of an offline mode is a significant advantage. This feature means that anyone purchasing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League can continue playing indefinitely, which stands out in contrast to numerous games that have ceased functioning over the past few years and are no longer playable at all. For instance, Concord, a once-popular PlayStation shooter, now falls into this category.

Currently, as I’m composing this, the Digital Deluxe Edition of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available for only $5 on the Xbox store. If you’ve been eagerly anticipating playing it, this might be the best price you’ll find for quite some time.

Although it remains uncertain about Rocksteady’s future projects, they are currently helping their sister studio, Avalanche Software, on an unannounced version of Hogwarts Legacy, which is expected to be a comprehensive edition. This revamped version is said to offer additional story content with new missions and activities, but there’s no specific release date or timeframe available at this point.

The game “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” can be played now on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, as well as PlayStation 5.
