Dexter: Original Sin Reveals How Dexter Is Alive After New Blood

As a long-time fan of Dexter, I can confidently say that the return of Dexter Morgan is like a dream come true! I remember watching the original series back in the day and being absolutely hooked – it was one of those shows that you just couldn’t miss an episode of. So when I heard about the reboot, I was beyond excited!

The revival of “Dexter: Original Sin” brings back Dexter Morgan after his demise at the conclusion of “New Blood.” Despite being over 18 years old, “Dexter” remains one of TV’s most beloved series. This show was a massive success on Showtime during the late 2000s and early 2010s, significantly contributing to the network’s identity. The show experienced a significant resurgence this summer when it became available again on Netflix, allowing the Dark Passenger to captivate a fresh audience. As a generation too young to have seen the original broadcast found itself drawn to the series, particularly those who grew up in the era of superhero media, Dexter once more dominated social media platforms.

The series “Dexter” ended in 2013, hinting at a possible future comeback. In 2021, this promise was fulfilled with “Dexter: New Blood,” a 10-episode miniseries intended to provide closure for the character. By the end of the series, Dexter Morgan is fatally shot by his son. As he reflects on the damage he’s inflicted upon those close to him, ruining their lives, he decides it’s best for everyone if he’s put down permanently rather than continue running or face imprisonment or capital punishment in Miami. However, what seemed like the final chapter, wasn’t!

Michael C. Hall’s character Dexter Morgan will be brought back to life in a new series titled “Dexter: Resurrection“, set to air in June 2025. Until then, fans can look forward to a prequel series called “Dexter: Original Sin” which delves into Dexter’s earlier years, providing some missing backstory. The unique aspect of this prequel is that it is narrated by Michael C. Hall as Dexter himself, essentially reminiscing about his life. The first episode of “Original Sin” aired tonight on Paramount+ and it addresses the question many fans have been wondering: How has Dexter managed to survive?

Dexter: Original Sin – How Is Dexter Still Alive?

In the opening scene of Original Sin, Dexter appears to be mortally wounded, having been shot near his heart. His girlfriend Angela, a police officer, rushes him to the ER where doctors work frantically to control the bleeding and revive him using a defibrillator. After a couple of attempts, they manage to bring him back to life, but he remains unconscious, possibly in a temporary coma. Essentially, Dexter was brought back to life through defibrillation.

There could be additional aspects to uncover, perhaps clarified further in ‘Original Sin’ or ‘Resurrection’. Previously, Michael C. Hall suggested to Variety that the cold climate in Iron Lake might have contributed to The Bay Harbor Butcher’s survival. It seems likely that the cold weather and snow slowed his bleeding, giving Dexter a chance to recover with medical assistance. However, where this leaves him moving forward is uncertain.

In the final episode of “New Blood”, Dexter was exposed as a serial killer to the public, prompting Angel Bautista to travel from Miami with the intention of confronting him. Authorities were ready to transport him back to his home state. It’s uncertain if Dexter will find a way to break free from the hospital once he recovers, but it’s expected that he’ll face some consequences, possibly interacting with new characters played by Peter Dinklage and Gillian Anderson. However, it seems unlikely that an entire series would be engaging if Dexter is either handcuffed or in a jail cell throughout, as it lacks the element of suspense. We’ll have to wait and see how the story unfolds!
