As a dedicated fan who has eagerly devoured each and every installment of the Cormoran Strike series since its inception, I can confidently say that the anticipation for The Running Grave is palpable. This latest novel, published in September 2023, promises to entangle our beloved duo in a religious cult masquerading as a force for good, and if history serves us right, it’s bound to be a gripping tale of mystery and intrigue.
Attention: This information reveals key plot points from both ‘The Ink Black Heart’ and ‘The Running Grave’, so if you haven’t watched the entire four-episode series of ‘Strike: The Ink Black Heart’ on BBC iPlayer, consider yourself warned!
The Running Grave is the seventh and most recent novel in the Cormoran Strike series.
The publication dates back to September 2023, and it delves into the lives of private investigators Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott, who find themselves ensnared within a seemingly benevolent religious group that hides a more sinister truth.
Simultaneously unfolding is the dynamic between the two main characters, deeply smitten with each other, yet their misunderstandings and poor timing have hindered their union up to this point.

Watch this space for updates.
When is the potential Strike: The Running Grave release date?
For enthusiasts of the series “Strike”, it’s been anywhere between two to two and a half years since the third season premiered, implying that if the show gets another season, we might not see “The Running Grave” until at least December 2026 at the earliest.
Who could be in the potential Strike: The Running Grave cast?
Additionally, characters portrayed by Tom Burke as Cormoran Strike and Holliday Grainger as Robin Ellacott may be joined once more by other familiar faces from the Strike series.
- Ruth Sheen as Pat Chauncey

Strike: The Running Grave plot – What is the book about?
Spoilers ahead.
Strike is contacted by a man whose son Will has joined a religious cult in Norfolk.
Glancing from an external perspective, the Universal Humanitarian Church seems to be “an organization advocating for peace and working towards a more favorable global condition,” as suggested by its official description.
To attempt a rescue for Will, Strike’s associate Robin Ellacott makes the decision to secretly join the cult. She embarks on a journey to Norfolk, where she conceals herself among their members to live undetected.
Do Strike and Robin get together in The Running Grave?
Spoilers ahead.
In the finale of the series, Strike indirectly declared his affection for Robin to her companion Ilsa, not explicitly stating “I love you,” at a time when his associate was going out on a date with DCI Richard Murphy, a turn of events that deviated significantly from what fans might have expected.
In the thrilling finale of “The Running Grave”, I’d been holding my breath, waiting for the moment when I mustered the nerve to confide in Robin directly about that crucial detail. It was high time!
Meanwhile, Robin is almost ready to depart on a journey alongside her new beau, Ryan Murphy, who interestingly enough, had his name billed as Richard Murphy in “The Ink Black Heart.
What’s a girl to do?
However, this marks the conclusion of the story, as JK Rowling (writing under the name Robert Galbraith) revealed to The Times in May that she’s currently working on two more Strike novels. Among them is the eighth book titled “The Hallmarked Man”, suggesting we might have to wait a considerable amount of time to discover if these stories will finally develop into something significant.
Is there a Strike: The Running Grave trailer?
As of now, there’s no trailer available for The Running Grave adaptation, and the BBC hasn’t confirmed whether it will be produced. Typically, trailers are released a month before the premiere if the project moves forward.
