Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn are set to make their debuts as Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm respectively in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” hitting theaters on July 25. Alongside Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, they will introduce these iconic characters from Earth-828 into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Later, these world-renowned superheroes of their reality will interact with the powerful Avengers of Earth-616 in “Avengers: Doomsday,” as suggested by the post-credits scene of “Thunderbolts.” This scene was filmed for the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed “Doomsday” movie.
At the UK premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Moss-Bachrach called Avengers: Doomsday “Epic, Tragic, Intergalactic, Starry.” Later, in a different interview, Quinn described it as “epic, insane, Downey Jr.” This references Robert Downey Jr.’s role as the villain Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four.
The happenings in Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 “Secret Wars,” which is the basis for the movie, as well as Marvel Studios’ other cosmic showdown in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War” can undoubtedly be called tragic. Led by Josh Brolin’s Thanos, this film depicted the Mad Titan eliminating half of the universe, including beloved characters such as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther.
In the 2019 movie “Avengers: Endgame,” the heroes who had previously departed made a comeback, but the demises of characters such as Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Heimdall (Idris Elba), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Vision (Paul Bettany) were final, meaning they couldn’t be reversed when Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Tony Stark, selflessly perished to save the universe.
The blockbuster movie Avengers: Doomsday boasts a stellar lineup featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth portraying Thor, Anthony Mackie in the role of Sam Wilson/Captain America, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Paul Rudd playing Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Channing Tatum assuming Remy LeBeau/Gambit, Simu Liu embodying Shang-Chi, Letitia Wright depicting Shuri/Black Panther, Winston Duke representing M’Baku, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Mabel Cadena as Namora, Alex Livinalli as Attuma, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier, David Harbour playing Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Lewis Pullman as Bob Reynolds/Sentry. Also joining the cast are Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, along with returning cast members Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden from the X-Men movies.
Kicking off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” premieres in theaters on July 25. Afterward, “Avengers: Doomsday” is set for release on December 18, 2026, followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on December 17, 2027.
