We have to apologize to shows like Mindhunter, His & Hers, The Beast in Me, and short-lived favorites such as Red Rose and The Society. But You is the only Netflix thriller that really stays with you, making it hard to focus on anything else because of Joe Goldberg’s disturbing story. Thankfully, the show ended at the perfect moment, as its star believes.

The film initially received an X rating – effectively killing its chances in theaters – after a scene depicting a death caused by one of the film’s spherical objects. Surprisingly, the MPAA didn’t object to the way the character died, but to what looked like urine appearing around the body after the death. The director resubmitted the film without any changes, hoping to bypass the rating, but the MPAA refused to reconsider. Eventually, a distributor executive, who happened to be friends with someone on the MPAA board, successfully convinced them to lower the rating.

The best anime don’t need a large cast or constant action to be engaging. What truly makes them stand out is well-defined characters. These characters speak and interact like real people, with relationships that feel genuine. Even smaller characters feel important because the show treats them as individuals, not just extras. In these exceptional anime, every character has a purpose and makes an impact, and the writing ensures no one is ever forgettable.

Watching Bleach finish its run really feels like a turning point. It makes me think about One Piece and Boruto, and how their stories will eventually end. For a long time, those three series – Bleach, One Piece, and Naruto – completely defined the shonen anime world, and anime in general. But that era feels like it’s fading. Back then, everyone watched episodes as they came out each week, creating a huge shared experience. It’s hard to imagine that happening now. These days, anime tends to have shorter seasons, releases are spread out, and there’s a bigger focus on making each episode look amazing, even if it means the series doesn’t last as long. It feels like the industry is prioritizing quality over a decades-long commitment.
