Ubisoft highlighted strong anti-cheat measures when they announced Rainbow Six Siege X, their new free-to-play competitive shooter. However, the system has been seriously challenged since Christmas. Although the game briefly went offline due to a hack over the holidays, it was restored. Unfortunately, hackers have repeatedly targeted the servers again, causing significant issues. Recently, as reported by The Gamer, hackers have been falsely banning players for “67 days” – a reference to the trending “six seven” meme.
The recent 67-day ban isn’t a one-time problem, and many players have been discussing it online. Although it initially appeared to only affect the PC version of Rainbow Six Siege, the game’s status page shows issues across all platforms – PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. All versions are experiencing four problems: poor connection quality, and outages with login, the in-game store, and finding matches.
So, Ubisoft hasn’t said anything about these recent hacking problems, which is super frustrating. A bunch of us are trying to figure out what’s going on ourselves. I saw one person on Reddit think it might have something to do with how the game uses its database system, MongoDB. It’s weird because Ubisoft’s official page says Rainbow Six Siege X is down, but a lot of players on the subreddit are saying they’re actually able to play just fine! One guy even posted over the weekend saying he’d been playing all morning and just logged off about half an hour ago. It’s a confusing situation, honestly.
In March 2025, Ubisoft announced its R6 ShieldGuard program alongside the reveal of new features for Rainbow Six Siege X before its launch as a free-to-play game. The lead programmer, Adrian Fraisse, explained that the development team was prioritizing reducing in-game toxicity and improving file security through a process called Binary Hardening, which encrypts game files more effectively.
According to Ubisoft’s Fraisse, they are committed to eliminating cheating and toxic behavior in Rainbow Six Siege. To that end, they recently launched ‘R6 ShieldGuard,’ a system designed to block actions that exploit the game’s mechanics. This includes things like simultaneously sprinting and shooting, which shouldn’t be possible within the game’s rules.
In June 2025, Rainbow Six Siege X became free to play on PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The updated game includes improved anti-cheat measures, a new game mode called Dual Front, and enhanced graphics.
Rainbow Six Siege, the popular game from Ubisoft, is experiencing issues with bans again. Many players are reporting being temporarily banned for 67 days, which is connected to a running joke within the game’s community known as the “Six Seven” meme.
