Well, I reckon I’d have to say that as a seasoned news reporter with years of covering the gaming industry under my belt, I’m rather impressed by Khayl Adam’s performance in this prediction game. He certainly knows his stuff when it comes to Sony and its ever-evolving strategies, and he’s got a keen eye for spotting trends before they become mainstream.
I must admit, I was a bit skeptical about the PS Portal at first, but after seeing how it’s taken off in 2024, I can see why Khayl thought it would be a success story for Sony. And while he didn’t hit the mark with every prediction, his insights into the shifting focus of Sony’s game development and the ups and downs of live service games were spot on.
Overall, I think Khayl has got what it takes to keep us all informed about the latest happenings in the world of gaming, and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with for our predictions about 2025! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go grab a well-deserved cup of tea and a biscuit. Cheers, old chap!
2024 has reached its conclusion, making it an ideal moment to ponder over the past 12 months. As we’ve done previously, we made some forecasts at the start of the year. It’s now time to assess which predictions proved accurate and which ones missed the mark. This year, editor Sammy Barker and assistant editor Liam Croft tied for first place in 2023. However, let’s see who’s ahead this time around as we delve into the results.
Sammy Barker, Editor
“Kingdom Hearts helps Disney overcome the darkness at D23.”
As a long-time fan of the Kingdom Hearts series, I was genuinely looking forward to catching a glimpse of Kingdom Hearts 4 at the 2024 D23 expo. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be, and my anticipation for an update on this game remains unfulfilled – for now. Despite this slight disappointment, I still hold onto hope that we’ll hear some news about Kingdom Hearts 4 soon enough. After all, the wait has been long enough for us dedicated fans!
“Zenless Zone Zero completes the holy gacha trifecta on PS5.”
Just as we anticipated from our in-house gacha specialist, Sammy was spot-on with his prediction. Zenless Zone Zero has undeniably joined the ranks of HoYoverse’s other successful games, and as expected, it is currently a console exclusive on PlayStation 5. For now, that is.
“Stellar Blade becomes a cult PS5 classic.”
As a long-time film enthusiast and critic, I must admit that making predictions about which films will eventually be hailed as cult classics can be quite challenging. These types of movies often require some time to gain a dedicated following and find their place in cinematic history. With that said, based on my own experience and knowledge of the industry, I believe that Sammy’s Stellar Blade has all the makings of a future cult classic.
Despite being somewhat overlooked during this year’s awards season, Stellar Blade has managed to build a devoted fanbase, which is a strong indicator of its potential longevity. Furthermore, while it may have received critical acclaim upon release, it seems to have slipped through the cracks in the larger conversation about the best films of the year.
However, I firmly believe that Stellar Blade deserves recognition for its unique blend of action, humor, and emotional depth. It’s a film that resonates with audiences on multiple levels, and I have no doubt that it will continue to be rediscovered and celebrated by future generations of film fans. So, in the spirit of Christmas, I say we give Sammy and his team the credit they deserve for creating such a special movie. It’s only fair!

“Sony redeems itself with the best PlayStation Showcase in years.”
This year, Sony has delivered several good TV shows, yet it’s challenging to label any of them as “the finest in years.” There were certainly notable moments in some 2024 presentations, such as the unveiling of Astro Bot and Ghost of Yotei, but it’s hard to make a case that any single event surpassed previous ones.
“Silent Hill 2 releases this year, and it’s better than expected.”
Back in January, Liam foresaw that the Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team would be a success. Initially, there were some concerns and apprehension about the project, but once the reviews were released, it became evident that the team had indeed done an excellent job. With positive critiques pouring in, the classic PS2 game undeniably received the remake it truly deserved.
“Naughty Dog announces one of its new single player projects.”
Lo and behold, Liam’s prediction turned out to be spot on at the very last instant. At The Game Awards 2024, Geoff made a surprising additional announcement – unveiling Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog’s forthcoming project. It doesn’t get any more straightforward than that!

“Sony will release a new game from a classic PlayStation property.”
In simpler terms, the term “classic PlayStation property” was not accurately represented in this case, as Sony did not release a game fitting that description. Although they delivered an outstanding game like Astro Bot, it didn’t align with Rob’s definition, so we won’t be awarding points for this round. Sorry, Rob – better luck next time!
“Tekken 8 will get a DLC guest character from Final Fantasy.”
This prediction was spot-on, without a doubt. Rob’s idea about a Final Fantasy character appearing in Tekken 8 turned out to be correct, and remarkably, he even speculated it might be Clive from FF16 – and lo and behold, that’s who they chose! Excellent work, indeed!
“Baldur’s Gate 3’s inevitable expansion will be the highest rated release of 2024 (on Metacritic).”
It seems disappointing once more, as Baldur’s Gate 3 hasn’t managed to secure the expected expansion yet. Despite numerous updates enriching and enhancing this massive RPG, a full-fledged expansion remains elusive.

“Third-party hits will carry Sony through a quiet year for PlayStation Studios.”
This topic seems tricky to define precisely; Stephen appears to be discussing in-house development teams instead of games like Rise of the Ronin and Helldivers 2, which are developed externally. In that context, his statement holds some truth, but it’s important to note that while Astro Bot is excellent, there wasn’t a significant number of exciting releases from internal teams this year. Let’s give him half a point for this analysis.
“Sony will announce and release at least one PlayStation Studios PSVR2 game in 2024.”
Well, as a long-time PlayStation enthusiast who’s been following the VR gaming scene for quite some time now, I must admit that I was a bit disappointed to hear there wasn’t a single PS Studios game released for PSVR2 in 2024. I’ve always been a huge fan of Sony’s exclusive titles, and I had high hopes that the company would deliver some exciting VR experiences with their new headset. But hey, it’s still early days yet. I remember how the PlayStation 4 struggled at first to gain traction, but once games like “The Last of Us” and “Uncharted 4” started rolling out, it really took off. So, while it may be a bit disheartening not to see any PS Studios games for PSVR2 this year, I’m still optimistic that we’ll see some amazing titles in the near future. After all, Sony has always had a knack for delivering high-quality experiences, and I have faith they won’t disappoint!
Contrary to popular belief, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League may not turn out to be as disastrous as some predict.
The less said about this, the better, really. It was a complete disaster.

“2024 is the year of new IP [for Sony].”
Although Sony released a couple of new intellectual properties like Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin last year, it’s unclear if these are the ones Aaron predicted in his statement. He appears to be referring to the launch of entirely new first-party series, such as the recently announced Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and unfortunately, no significant announcements on that front were made in 2024. We’ll give him partial credit for the new IPs, but it seems he might have been expecting something different.
“PS5 Pro will be announced and launched this year.”
3 Rings! Well done, Aaron — The PS5 Pro did get announced and rolled out in the year 2024. It hit the market in November, priced at a noticeable $700/£700. This latest model showcases an upgraded GPU, AI-powered super sampling, and superior ray tracing capabilities, giving your existing PS5 games a touch more shine.
“2024 will be a quietly decent year for PSVR2.”
It turns out that PSVR2 has had a quietly impressive year, with some outstanding games released in the second half of 2024. These titles have provided ample motivation to give your PSVR2 a clean dust-off. Among them are Toy Trains, Spin Rhythm XD, Vendetta Forever, the Arizona Sunshine Remake, Metro Awakening, and Trombone Champ: Unflattened – all of which offer fantastic virtual reality experiences that are definitely worth your time.

“Baldur’s Gate 3 gets a proper expansion, announced and released in 2024.”
Apologies, buddy Khayl! I’m afraid my prophecy about Baldur’s Gate 3 expanding in 2024 was off the mark. Looks like we were both fooled by the enigmatic Larian Studios. Let this serve as a reminder: trusting game developers with predictions can be risky business! (Wink, wink!)
“PlayStation Portal turns out to be a surprising success story for Sony.”
As someone who has been a long-time PlayStation enthusiast, I have to admit that I am thoroughly impressed with the success of the PS Portal. Over the years, I have witnessed the evolution of gaming consoles, and the PS Portal has truly stood out as one of the most innovative and user-friendly devices in the market. The introduction of cloud gaming has taken it to a whole new level!
I remember the days when I had to physically connect my PS5 to play games on the go. With the Remote Play feature, I can now access my console from virtually anywhere, as long as I have a stable internet connection. But what truly blew me away was the ability to beam software directly to the Portal without any physical connection at all!
I can’t help but feel that this device will continue to be a game-changer for Sony in the coming years. Its versatility and convenience make it an essential tool for any gamer, and I eagerly anticipate seeing what new features they will introduce next. The PS Portal has undeniably made my gaming experience more enjoyable and convenient than ever before, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
“Focus shifts back to single-player, and live service games start to go away.”
As a long-time gamer and Sony enthusiast with over two decades of gaming history under my belt, I find myself intrigued by Khayl’s prediction regarding Sony’s performance in the GaaS (Game as a Service) sector in 2024. Sony has had its fair share of triumphs and setbacks in this area, and I have witnessed many ups and downs during my time following their gaming journey.
Helldivers 2 has undeniably been a massive success for Sony, demonstrating the company’s ability to deliver engaging, high-quality experiences that resonate with players. However, Concord was an unfortunate blunder that quickly vanished from the market just days after its release, serving as a stark reminder of the risks involved in pushing the boundaries of innovation.
Astro Bot emerged later in the year as a glimmer of hope for Sony, demonstrating their knack for creating unique and captivating experiences. Furthermore, two of Sony’s highly anticipated announcements for 2024 – Ghost of Yotei and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet – are single-player titles. Given Khayl’s prediction, it seems possible that these games could contribute to a successful year for Sony in the GaaS arena, although only time will tell.
In my opinion, Sony’s ability to consistently deliver compelling experiences across various genres and platforms is one of the keys to their continued success in the gaming industry. They have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation, which has allowed them to weather both highs and lows with grace. As a gamer, I eagerly await the outcome of 2024 and look forward to seeing how Sony’s GaaS lineup unfolds.
