Cyberpunk 2077 has experienced a remarkable turnaround. Initially released amidst controversy, similar to the launch of No Man’s Sky, it has become CD Projekt RED’s most profitable game and a fan-favorite RPG. Despite all the positive changes and updates, some players, including myself, still feel that certain aspects, such as the storyline leading up to the Arasaka heist, could have been further developed.
As someone who’s been following the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, I heard the creative director, Igor Sarzyński, talk about expanding the first act, and honestly, he makes a good point. He basically said adding more stuff before the big heist wouldn’t actually make the game better. He compared it to wanting to spend ages on Tatooine with farmboy Luke Skywalker before all the Jedi craziness started – sometimes you just need to get to the good stuff!
Sarzyński was talking about that part in Star Wars: A New Hope – it’s honestly a bit slow, but still sets things up. He also pointed out that this is an open-world game, and some people can easily spend 20 hours just exploring Watson. He basically said to play at your own speed, which I totally get!
He believes that focusing too long on simply “getting to the top” would have made the experience feel directionless and rambling without any real tension. Whether there’s enough time to connect with Jackie, V’s friend, before the heist is a matter of personal opinion, but overall, he feels they found the right balance.
Regarding the montage shown after Jackie and V first meet, Sarzyński explains that it wasn’t originally planned as removed footage. He states it was always intended to be presented this way, and promises to discuss the idea of ‘cut content’ in a future post.
Sarzyński recently proved that the idea that elevators in the game Cyberpunk 2077 were just a way to hide loading times isn’t true. You can find more details about this discovery here.
CD Projekt RED is working on Cyberpunk 2, currently known as Project Orion. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, the company intends to expand its development teams to speed up progress in the coming years.
Would adding more to the beginning of Cyberpunk 77 (before the big heist) improve the game? Probably not. It’s similar to suggesting we needed to spend more time with Luke Skywalker on Tatooine as a farmer before he became a Jedi – it doesn’t really fit the story’s focus.

The game is an open world experience, and many players spend around 20 hours exploring Watson. You can play at your own speed! However, the goal in this part of the game – simply ‘reach the top’ – is a bit unclear. Without stronger objectives or a sense of urgency, it could easily become a wandering and aimless experience.

Regarding Jackie, whether we had enough time to develop her character is subjective – some players will feel we did, others won’t. Overall, I believe we found a good middle ground. Also, the six-month montage wasn’t removed content; it was always intended to be presented that way. I’ll discuss the idea of ‘cut content’ in a separate post. (Image courtesy of u/HackSama)
