Do You Put Your PS5 in Rest Mode or Shut It Down?

Refreshingly, it seems the PlayStation community is equally split regarding the Rest Mode feature. Approximately half of them prefer to partially shut off their consoles following every gaming session, while the remainder prefers a full disconnection instead.

During a recent chat with GameFile (thanks, IGN), it appeared as though the discussion was centered around the Welcome Hub feature on the PS5, yet Sony Interactive Entertainment’s VP of game, product, and player experience, Cory Gasaway, inadvertently uncovered a rift within our gaming community. This divide seems to be particularly prevalent among U.S. PS5 owners, although it’s likely that similar patterns of behavior emerge wherever PlayStation enthusiasts gather.

Through our study, we uncovered valuable information regarding how PS5 players engage with their system during breaks. For instance, we assumed a majority of users would opt for Rest Mode over completely turning off the console. However, we found an equal distribution between the two options among all our users. This discovery meant that roughly half of our user base, primarily in the US, were initially directed to our Explore page when starting up. Users outside the U.S., on the other hand, were led to the page for their most recently played game.
