Skeleton Crew” has been captivating fans who’ve watched it, and part of its appeal lies in the presence of Jude Law as Jod Na Nawood, a roguish pirate struggling with hardship. Questions about Jod persist (such as whether that’s his true name), but one of the most intriguing enigmas is the source of his extraordinary abilities. Initially, Jod pretended to be a Jedi to deceive the young characters in the series by showcasing Force-like talents, like telekinesis, as proof of his supposed Jedi training.
In the second-to-last episode of Skeleton Crew, it was evident that Jod lacked even the fundamental Jedi training to wield a lightsaber effectively. Yet, if Jod Na Nawood is an untrained user of the Force, he could potentially bring something new and exciting to the Star Wars universe.
Jod Is Everything OT
If we consider Jod Na Nawood as a Force-user without Jedi training, he seems to combine the characteristics of two male characters from the Original Trilogy: Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. He has unrealized Force abilities and a charm that could make anyone fall for him, yet he also has a rebellious streak, suggesting he might surprise us with his goodness. With Jude Law’s captivating charm, Jod is rapidly becoming one of the most memorable new characters in the Star Wars universe.
…And that is a major hurdle for the Star Wars franchise to get over.
The ending of Star Wars: The Last Jedi sparked much debate among fans about whether a non-Skywalker character could become a hero who wields the Force. However, the presence of a different type of Force user as the main character in a popular Star Wars TV series demonstrates that the franchise is capable of exploring diverse stories involving the Force without overshadowing the exciting, adventurous, or sometimes terrifying aspects of the galaxy far, far away.
If you haven’t seen it (yet), the series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is about four kids who stumble upon a strange and unexpected discovery on their supposedly safe home planet. They soon find themselves lost in a perilous galaxy filled with danger. Their journey to return home, encountering both helpful allies and formidable enemies, promises an adventure far greater than they could have ever imagined.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m eager to highlight the compelling cast of this intriguing series. Among the primary young characters, we have Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), KB (Kyriana Kratter), and the latest audience magnet, Neel (Robert Timothy Smith). The enigmatic Jod Na Nawood is portrayed by none other than the charismatic Jude Law, a Force-user with an intriguing backstory shrouded in mystery.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is streaming on Disney+.
