It’s possible that a patent filed by Sony titled “TIMED INPUT/ACTION RELEASE (WO2025010132)” might never be implemented. This innovative technology, if realized, would leverage Artificial Intelligence to predict and facilitate the timely release of user commands on electronic devices.
According to Tech4Gamers (thanks to IGN for the tip), this technology could function in multiple ways. A camera focused on the player’s hands would employ machine learning to foresee the player’s actions, potentially reducing response time. Sony explained the purpose of this tech by stating, “There can be a delay between the user’s action input and the system’s subsequent processing and execution of the command, leading to delayed command execution and unwanted outcomes within the game.” So, say goodbye to using input lag as an excuse for your gaming losses!
An alternative sensor to the inconvenient finger-mounted camera might be integrated within the controller button itself. It’s evident that PlayStation is embracing AI technology to enhance its offerings, as demonstrated by its first official upscaler, PSSR, coming pre-installed on PS5 Pro consoles. Could it be possible that the DualSense controller could receive an AI upgrade for the PS6?
In simpler terms, what are your thoughts on Sony’s technology for predictive buttons, a concept that, much like many other patented ideas, may not be implemented in a significant way? What are your views on this potential development? We’ve preemptively guessed your response in the comments section below.
