New Legend of Zelda Release Can Now Be Downloaded for Free

For enthusiasts of The Legend of Zelda series, a fresh update has become available, offering it free of charge to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED users with an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. With whispers suggesting that the unveiling of the next Nintendo Switch model could occur this week, there’s speculation that fans may catch a sneak peek into the future of the series. Since the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is probably still some time away and unlikely to debut at any Nintendo Switch 2 event, it’s possible that we might see remasters, spin-offs, or smaller projects instead. Among these possibilities is the rumored Breath of the Wild remaster. Before all that though, there’s something new for Zelda fans, and it doesn’t cost a dime!

To clarify, it’s important to mention that the latest free download for your Nintendo Switch is accessible exclusively to those who have an active subscription for Nintendo Switch Online. Contrary to popular belief, the Expansion Pack isn’t essential for this offer. In essence, any user with a current Nintendo Switch Online subscription can benefit from this new free download; however, only subscribers are eligible. This is due to the fact that the free download incorporates Nintendo Music, which is restricted and accessible solely through a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Now, Nintendo Switch Online members can access the melodies from The Wind Waker, a GameCube Zelda title, which has been added to their collection that already includes the music from The Legend of Zelda games: Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, and Breath of the Wild on Nintendo’s Music platform.

If you’re not familiar, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was the tenth game in the series when it debuted on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002. Just like other mainline Zelda games, it was warmly accepted back then, as shown by its 96 score on Metacritic. What sets it apart from other mainline installments is its unique, cartoonish art style with cel shading.

Although The Wind Waker isn’t one of the most well-known main series Zelda games, it did receive two sequels on the Nintendo DS: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass in 2007 and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks in 2009.
