Sally Struthers is not keeping it all in the family when it comes to Betty White.
Previously on the show “Gilmore Girls”, Sally Struthers openly shared her personal feelings towards Betty White, the iconic actress from “The Golden Girls” who passed away in 2021 at the age of 99. Living just a stone’s throw away from the famous exterior of the “Golden Girls” house in Brentwood, California, Sally was not shy about revealing her somewhat strained encounters with Betty.
Sally started off by mentioning, now that she’s no longer here, she wanted to take a brief moment to discuss Betty White on the “Let’s Talk About That! With Larry Saperstein and Jacob Bellotti” podcast on January 13. She acknowledged that everyone adores her and showed their affection by signing petitions in an attempt to have her host Saturday Night Live as a guest.
She stated, “I’m well aware of the facts. My encounter with her wasn’t particularly pleasant—she seemed quite passive-aggressive.
As a die-hard fan, I can share a harrowing tale from the lips of an esteemed 77-year-old, who had a nightmarish run-in with Betty while collaborating on the pilot for a fresh game show.
Sally remembered that she had asked her housekeeper to deliver a platter of assorted snacks during their conversation about the game show, specifically discussing its strengths and weaknesses. The platter was placed in the center, and as she recalls, there were likely cookies on it.
Later on, Sally remembered an unkind comment made by Betty as she reached for a cookie. “In front of the group, she said, ‘If I were you, I wouldn’t take that cookie, you don’t need it, dear,'” was what Betty had said.
Sally remarked, “Publicly humiliated me about my weight.” She then thought to herself, “That’s not very kind.
However, while one “All in the Family” actor harbored negative feelings towards Betty, numerous other stars looked back fondly on the late “Hot in Cleveland” actress following her death from a stroke on December 31, 2021, only 18 days before her 100th birthday.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself reflecting on the profound impact of Betty, my co-star from our 2009 film “The Proposal”. Taking to Instagram, I expressed, “The world has subtly transformed since we last shared the screen. She excelled at confounding expectation and remained young at heart, even as she gracefully aged. We’ll deeply miss her radiant presence.
Steve Martin reminisced about a charming encounter he had with an Emmy winner in 1974. He shared that he was just starting out as the opening act for singer Linda Ronstadt at the Troubadour in Los Angeles when he ran into Betty White and her husband, Allen Ludden, waiting in line before the show. “I adored Betty White,” he said, so he approached them and expressed his admiration. He asked if they had come to see Linda, to which they replied, “We came to see you because we heard you were funny.” This made Steve Martin extremely happy.
