Samoa Joe made his long-awaited return on AEW Dynamite!
Since last summer, the legendary ex-AEW Champion has been absent from television screens, having lost a Stampede Fight against Chris Jericho. At that time, he was written off, pushed into a forklift by Jericho. During this break, Joe filmed Season 2 of Peacock’s “Twisted Metal” series where he portrayed Sweet Tooth. Filming occurred between July and October of 2024. His return to the screen was a fitting moment in the storyline as it connected with his previous arc. Last year, when Joe was taken out of the game, he had allied with HOOK and Katsuyori Shibata. The young wrestler had earned Joe’s respect following their title match.
Tonight’s AEW Dynamite featured HOOK issuing a challenging match to Christian Cage, and he was remarkably aggressive during the initial round. However, the outcome saw him defeating Cage by disqualification. Following the match, there was a heated altercation where Cage and his associates attacked HOOK and Shibata who were observing from ringside. The tension escalated as Joe’s theme song played, promptly engaging in a confrontation with Cage and Kip Sabian. The only missing piece to the puzzle is Jericho, but he’s currently involved with The Learning Tree gimmick, primarily on AEW Collision.
It’s not unexpected, considering Cage possesses the power to open the kingdom’s door with his hands. He secured an AEW World Title match months ago but hasn’t used it yet. Given Joe’s influence and ambition, he likely yearns for another shot at the world title. Eliminating Cage might be a strategic move towards regaining that position.
Joe is among the few recent comebacks in both men’s and women’s divisions of AEW. Kenny Omega’s significant return battle took place on Dynamite against Brian Cage, which he won. Furthermore, he has joined forces with Will Ospreay due to a need to counter Don Callis. The groundwork has been laid for another confrontation between him and Konosuke Takeshita, but we’ll undoubtedly witness a tag match first. In addition, Adam Copeland (now known as Cope) made an unexpected return at AEW Worlds End following a fractured tibia. He challenged the world Champion, Moxley, and has been in conflict with him ever since.
Fans of AEW have been expressing a good deal of dissatisfaction about the program on social media recently, particularly concerning the Death Riders storyline. It’s hoped that with talent like Joe, Megan Bayne (debuting soon), Mercedes Mone, Swerve Strickland, Will Ospreay, and Omega, AEW will regain its momentum in no time.
Stay tuned for updates on AEW.
