It’s clear that Sony’s expectations for the PlayStation VR2 weren’t met with the same level of success as they had hoped. With more than 20 games at its launch, including Horizon Call of the Mountain, the virtual reality headset faced criticism due to its $549.99 price point. Now, nearly two years after its release, it appears that the company has other priorities on their agenda.
As a gaming enthusiast, if comparing the initial release of PlayStation VR to the iconic PlayStation One is anything to go by, then the anticipation for PlayStation VR2 should have been reminiscent of the excitement surrounding the PlayStation 2 – a level of hype that unfortunately didn’t materialize. This is something that former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida has expressed regret over in an interview with Greg Miller from Kinda Funny, admitting, “I’m sorry I was wrong – PS VR2 didn’t become the PS2.”
When inquired about the status of PlayStation VR2, Yoshida replied vaguely, “Hmm, I suppose we should discuss something else.” Whether it’s because he doesn’t have enough details or for some other reason, his response certainly sparks curiosity.
Regarding future games for the headset, one to look forward to is “Hitman World of Assassination,” which was moved from its 2024 release to March 27th to ensure a smoother, more polished experience. Additionally, “The Midnight Walk” by Moonhood, set to launch this Spring, promises an visually distinct gaming adventure.
