Kamala Harris is heading home.
Immediately following the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th U.S. President on Jan. 20, and with Vice President JD Vance being sworn in, the previous vice president got on a plane to return home and assist firefighters who were battling wildfires in Southern California, as well as help distribute food through the nonprofit organization World Central Kitchen.
Just as her tenure as Vice President was groundbreaking, Harris’ departure also made history. In fact, it marked the first instance of an all-female team operating a C-32 aircraft for the United States Air Force, as reported by MSNBC.

At that point, she stated, “In times like these, our brave first responders, along with neighbors lending a helping hand, demonstrate the exceptional American spirit. Californians are rising to the occasion during this crisis. Our administration remains committed to providing all necessary assistance to state and local relief efforts.

Instead of previous years, this year’s swearing-in ceremony was held within the Capitol Rotunda – a first since 1985 when Ronald Reagan assumed office indoors. The change was made because of Trump’s request, citing extremely cold weather as the reason for moving it indoors.
The President expressed his concern, stating on Truth Social on January 17: “I don’t wish for anyone to experience harm or injury in any form. The situation is perilous for the multitude of law enforcement officers, first responders, police dogs, and even horses, as well as countless supporters who will be out for several hours on the 20th.
