The classic 1990s Street Fighter cartoon series by Capcom is returning unexpectedly, thanks to niche Blu-ray distributor Discotek.
As an enthusiastic fan, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming re-release of the entire 26-episode series is being preserved using a unique format called SD-BD. This essentially means that the episodes will be presented in their original resolution, avoiding any enhancement or upscaling. However, it’s important to note that additional features like subtitles have been improved for a more enjoyable viewing experience.
The Blu-ray is packaged with vintage VHS-like wear, and a flip-side cover offers a choice between a label reminiscent of the initial Super Nintendo launch of Street Fighter 2.
Additional items in the package consist of the initial scripted storyboards, harmoniously matched with the main theme music. Furthermore, you’ll encounter an art exhibit and comments for each episode provided by YouTubers such as Maximilian Dood.
Meanwhile, it’s worth mentioning that the same corporation is reviving the Darkstalkers animated show, originally broadcasted in the U.S. It’s important to note this isn’t the same as the Japanese OVA. So far, there are 13 episodes planned, with additional content yet to be disclosed.
This year, Discotek is on quite a roll! They’re not only planning to release an Angel Heart Blu-ray in 2025, but they will also be offering all 50 episodes in high definition. Additionally, they have plans for Blu-ray versions of the two live-action Nana movies.
