Is Bitcoin the New Gold? The WEF Debate Goes Viral! 🚀

Bitcoin, memecoins, and the future of crypto were the talk of the town at the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. And let’s not forget, Donald Trump was back in the Oval Office, making everything 10 times more interesting. 🤦‍♂️

In the one crypto session at the forum, industry leaders were all, “Bitcoin baby, we’re in!” despite the TRUMP token causing more chaos than a Black Friday sale. 🤑

The World Economic Forum doesn’t talk about Bitcoin – so I made sure that we did in 2025.

I took the chance to ask if the US will adopt a Bitcoin strategic reserve during the ‘Crypto at a Crossroads’ session inside this year’s WEF conference.

Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong remains…

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, ever the optimist, said the TRUMP token fiasco didn’t derail the Bitcoin strategic reserve plan. “Cynthia Lummis in the Senate is pushing that idea,” he said, like he was talking about a new flavor of ice cream. 🍦

But Lesetja Kganyago, South African Reserve Bank governor, wasn’t buying it. “Why Bitcoin?” he asked, like we’re all supposed to know the answer. “Why not beef reserves?” 🥩

Armstrong, undeterred, said Bitcoin is better than gold. “It’s more portable and divisible,” he said, like he was selling the world’s best sandwich. 🍞

Central Bankers Criticize Bitcoin Reserve

Kganyago pointed out that South Africa is more into blockchain utility and CBDCs. “If we hold Bitcoin, why not platinum?” he asked, like he was playing a game of “Name That Random Thing.” 🎲

Armstrong countered, saying Bitcoin is the new gold standard. “It might start with 1% of reserves,” he said, like he was talking about a small investment. “But it will come to be equal to or greater than gold.” 💰

US Crypto Lobby Had Significant Influence

The session also discussed how crypto lobbying influenced the US election. Anthony Scaramucci said the Democratic Party was clueless. “Elizabeth Warren and Gary Gensler helped the Democrats lose the presidency,” he said, like he was talking about a bad breakup. 💔

Denelle Dixon said the industry had to look overseas due to US regulations. “The dollar is in high demand,” she said, like she was talking about a popular snack. 🍫

Armstrong concluded that the Trump effect gave the industry hope. “We have a new president, and it’s like a fresh start,” he said, like he was starting a new chapter in a book. 📖
