In “The Accountant 2”, Ben Affleck once again takes on the character of Christian Wolff, a highly skilled accountant with autism, specializing in cleaning up fraudulent financial records for criminal and terrorist organizations dealing with internal theft. This time around, Jon Bernthal is also part of the cast, portraying Christian’s brother.
What Is The Accountant 2 About?
As per the official synopsis for The Accountant 2:
In a turn of events, Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) coaxes Christian Wolff out from hiding as someone near them is brutally murdered by unidentified gunmen. To unravel this mysterious crime, Wolff seeks assistance from his distant but formidably skilled brother Brax (Jon Bernthal).
In addition to Ben Affleck, The Accountant 2 features Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, and J.K. Simmons. Gavin O’Connor is back as director, while Affleck and Matt Damon take on producer roles. However, it appears that Anna Kendrick, Jeffrey Tambor, Jean Smart, and John Lithgow will not reprise their roles in the sequel.
In the 2016 movie, “The Accountant,” we followed Chris Wolff as he discovered a significant financial error within a seemingly legitimate firm, which put him in danger from both law enforcement and dangerous criminals. As Wolff delved deeper to expose hidden secrets, it was revealed that his expertise extended not only to numbers but also to lethal force. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film grossed $155 million globally on a budget of just $44 million, earning cult-status in Ben Affleck’s filmography. It was also the most-rented digital film of 2017 and reached No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies chart upon its release on their platform.
It’s worth mentioning that director Gavin O’Connor has hinted at expanding “The Accountant” into a trilogy. He shared with CinemaBlend, “I’ve always envisioned three films because the second one will delve deeper into his brother’s involvement in the story.” This means there will be more focus on Bernthal’s character in the sequel. The third movie, as he describes it, is like a more intense version of “Rain Man”, focusing on the two brothers, an unusual duo. So, the third installment will essentially be a buddy film.
The Accountant 2 has a theatrical release date of April 25th.
