One of the Best Zombie Movies of All Time Is Coming to Netflix

Zombie enthusiasts can rejoice as they will have the opportunity to stream the timeless zombie masterpiece, “Train to Busan,” on Netflix soon. Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, this nail-biting thriller unfolds during a zombie outbreak within a South Korean train traveling from Seoul to Busan. The film follows the harrowing journey of passengers on the train as they struggle against a spreading virus. Among them are Seok-woo (Gong Yoo), Yoon Sang-hwa (Ma Dong-seok), his pregnant wife Seong-kyeong (Jung Yu-mi), and Seok-woo’s daughter Kim Su-an (Su-an). “Train to Busan” is set to be one of the new titles added to Netflix in February, with its premiere scheduled for February 11th.

2016 saw the explosion of “Train to Busan” in South Korea’s cinema landscape, and its international appeal was no less potent. Thanks to Well Go USA, it graced our screens in the U.S. and Canada in 2017. This gripping Korean zombie thriller spawned a prequel anime, “Seoul Station,” in the same year, followed by a direct sequel, “Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula,” in 2020. There’s also been talk of a Hollywood-produced English adaptation for quite some time now, with Indonesian director Timo Tjahjanto at the helm. As a devoted cinephile, I can’t wait to see how this captivating saga unfolds!

For Western viewers, the movie “Train to Busan” serves as an introduction to South Korean action star Ma Dong-seok (or Don Lee), who has since gained prominence with his rough-and-tumble character in the series “Roundup.” Additionally, he played a significant role in Netflix’s post-apocalyptic action film “Badlands Hunters.” Ma’s resume also includes the Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Eternals,” where he portrayed Gilgamesh, and the upcoming martial arts action ensemble “Non-Stop” alongside Jet Li, Tony Jaa, and Iko Uwais.

Since the turn of the 21st century, the zombie genre has experienced a remarkable comeback in terms of popularity. The enduring TV series “The Walking Dead” played a significant role in fueling this modern fascination with zombies. Its influence can be seen across various genres, from comedic titles like the “Zombieland” movies to action-horror hybrids such as “Army of the Dead”, and even upcoming productions like “28 Years Later” scheduled for 2025.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about the global acclaim that “Train to Busan” has received as one of the top contemporary zombie movies. This testifies to the universal appeal of the zombie genre. Personally, I find it incredibly innovative how this film sets a zombie outbreak against the backdrop of a speeding train. With “Train to Busan” joining Netflix’s horror movie collection, it’s the perfect opportunity for both dedicated fans and casual zombie enthusiasts to organize some chilling Netflix viewing sessions. It might even introduce newcomers to the modern zombie cult classic for the very first time.
