Athletes Whose Kids Are Taking the Sports World by Storm

Alex Morgan is adding a new player to the pitch.

The former member of the U.S. women’s national soccer team, who is a mother to a 4-year-old daughter named Charlie, shared by husband Servando Carrasco, unveiled the gender of their upcoming child using an adorable baby onesie.

Alex announced on Instagram with Babylist on January 23 that Charlie will become an older sibling, and they’re expecting a little boy. They’re thrilled to tell everyone about their upcoming addition and can’t wait for their son to come home from the hospital, dressed in his new outfit.

In September, when the 35-year-old woman, who at the same time revealed her pregnancy and retirement from professional soccer, expressed that she would be content with either a son or daughter, she also mentioned that her older sister, Charlie, is excited about forming a mixed-gender team instead.

In an interview with People on January 23, Alex shared, “I would have been content whether it was a son or a daughter, but my daughter seems particularly thrilled at the prospect of having a brother. She doesn’t want another sister taking her clothes, as I did with my sisters when growing up since I am one of three girls.

Referring to Charlie as her “assistant,” the two-time World Cup winner noted, “She loves to give my belly a kiss every day, greet her baby brother each morning, bid goodnight to him every night while he’s in my womb. She always wants to touch my belly to feel him, showing she truly comprehends, and it’s comforting having nearly a five-year age gap as I believe she will be more empathetic towards the situation.

For me, having my precious daughter and family by my side throughout this journey has been the cornerstone of my triumphs.

In her Instagram retirement post in September, she expressed that her family is everything to her. For the past 15 years of her professional athletic career, they have been the source of her motivation, encouragement, support, and sacrifices.

Although it’s still early to predict whether Alex’s children will don soccer cleats just like their mother, let’s proceed and explore other athletes whose offspring have taken after them in sports.

Born as LeBron James Jr. on October 6, 2004, Bronny James played high school basketball at Chatsworth Sierra Canyon, located within the San Fernando Valley. Upon completing his high school education, he moved on to attend the University of Southern California.

Although the NBA schedule frequently prevents LeBron from attending all of his son’s games, he has a strong desire to watch Bronny play and will go to significant efforts to do so. An example of this is when he hired a private plane on a day off to witness Sierra Canyon compete against St. Vincent-St. Mary, his own high school in Akron, Ohio.

LeBron shared with reporters that he would be going to watch his son play, not just any game, but one against his old college. He described the experience as incredibly special, like coming full circle, and almost too amazing to believe.

In June of 2024, Bronny got picked by the Los Angeles Lakers in a draft, which meant that he and his dad, LeBron, became the initial pairing of a father and son who played together in the NBA.

As an overly enthusiastic fan, I can’t help but mention that joining Sierra Canyon’s all-star lineup is none other than Zaire Wade, the firstborn son of retired Miami Heat comrade (and former teammate of NBA legend) Dwyane Wade.

Zaire, who joined there in December 2019 from Florida, expressed to Yahoo! Sports that they need to fully accept it due to the extraordinary focus being placed on their team. “There are cameras following us everywhere we go. I’ve always had a lot of attention, but this is something else entirely. This is a new, unprecedented level.

Nevertheless, dissatisfied with the limited game time he received, Zaire declared via Instagram in April 2020 his intention to transfer to Brewster Academy, located in Wolfeboro, Florida.

In the 2021 NBA G League draft, Zaire was selected as the 10th pick and joined the Salt Lake City Stars. Subsequently, he played for Cape Town Tigers in the Basketball Africa League until April 2024, when he signed with a team in the ASEAN Basketball League.

The former football legend has a daughter, Cha’iel Johnson, who could potentially outshine him. At just 12 years old, she made history by competing in the 2017 AAU Junior Olympics and winning the girls’ 800-meter race.

Prior to attending the University of Kentucky’s sports team, she competed for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida.

The third-born child of the NBA Hall of Famer, standing tall at 6 feet 10 inches, had a collegiate basketball career with UCLA but was forced to stop due to a heart condition necessitating surgery.

Following a year without playing for the Californian educational institution during the 2018-19 season, he moved to Louisiana State University. Outside their Basketball Practice Facility stands an imposing 900-pound bronze statue of Shaquille O’Neal, a testament to one of LSU’s renowned alumni.

As a lifestyle expert, I am thrilled to share that back in 2020, I proudly announced my decision to attend Louisiana State University (LSU), following in the footsteps of my brother, Shareef O’Neal. Both of us will be representing our family on the LSU basketball court as we pursue our collegiate careers.

Making the transition from high school to college is one of the toughest choices for someone my age,” she confided earlier. “Though I’m not entirely sure what lies ahead, I’m prepared to meet the challenge. I never thought I’d say this, but I am thrilled to announce that I have decided to become a student-athlete at LSU, joining my brother Shareef O’Neal. I can’t express enough gratitude for spending the next four years as a Tiger.

In college at Sierra Canyon, the oldest child of two-time NBA All-Star Zack Randolph played basketball with fellow NBA progeny Izela Arenas, daughter of Gilbert Arenas, as a teammate.

Randolph shared with the Los Angeles Times in December 2020 that he attended Michigan State under coach Tom Izzo. He described Izzo as tough and demanding, adding that boys could handle his roughness, but girls had a way of winning him over. He seemed to have a soft spot for the girls.

Mackenly mentioned that she had defeated her father on three separate occasions during one-on-one matches, adding humorously, “He lacks defensive skills.

In 2019, the son of an NFL Hall of Famer who stands at 6 feet 3 inches chose Florida Atlantic University as a preferred walk-on. Terique, who spent most of his life playing basketball, transitioned to football during his teenage years. He kicked off his post-high school athletic career at Contra Costa Community College before transferring to another institution.

The student from Sierra Canyon High School was a starter throughout his entire time there and secured two state championships. Later, he attended Vanderbilt University to play college basketball. In 2022, he signed a dual contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following a short tenure with the NBA’s minor league team, the South Bay Lakers, Scott Jr., inscribed a two-way deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in the year 2024.

The legendary five-time NBA champion, who once played for the Chicago Bulls, is not just a multifaceted individual; he’s also a dedicated father.

Dennis Rodman Jr., often referred to as DJ, showcased his athletic prowess by playing both basketball and football at Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, California. Upon graduation, he continued his basketball career, serving as a forward at Washington State University. In 2023, he transferred his talents to the University of Southern California.

In 2017, following a match, Ryan Schachter, his coach, remarked to the Orange County Register that he was one of the less recognized or lesser-known players in Southern California.

Although DJ, Dennis’ son, pursued basketball like his father, his daughter Trinity Rodman forged her unique journey in the soccer realm. With her freshman year at Washington State Cougars disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, she opted for a professional career and signed with Washington Spirit in 2021. In 2022, she also joined the United States women’s national soccer team.

It’s perfectly appropriate that golf’s Greatest of All Time (GOAT) has a son with remarkable abilities on the green. Charlie Woods, at just 11 years old, made his televised golf debut alongside his father at the 2020 PNC Championship.

When asked if he had been practicing his golf swing for the upcoming father-son outing, the 15-time major champion replied, “I haven’t spent any effort on it. Frankly, I’m not too concerned about my own game right now. My main focus is to ensure that Charlie has a fantastic time and gets to truly enjoy this experience.
