The debut of Season 2 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone is a significant event, and console gamers can look forward to this with enthusiasm. Given the widespread cheating in the game, primarily from PC users, console players will now have the opportunity to engage in ranked modes exclusively among themselves.
Treyarch has announced that the new feature will go live when Season 2 starts at 9 a.m. Pacific (12 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. UK) on January 28. This means that players participating in Ranked Play on Xbox and PlayStation can now opt to play matches only with other console players, excluding PC users from the matchmaking process.
Despite anticipation for a major update in Ricochet anticheat, there’s uncertainty about its effectiveness in addressing the issue significantly. In light of this, many top players have contemplated switching from PC to console as a means of escaping hackers. As of today, this transition becomes an actual choice.
Here’s what you need to know.
How Ranked Play in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone will work from Season 2 on Xbox and PlayStation
It’s crucial to remember that the console-exclusive crossplay function isn’t activated automatically. Ideally, Activision aims to bring together top players across all platforms for competitive ranked matches.
On paper, the first season seems promising, but in reality, it’s turned out to be an absolute catastrophe. The gameplay in Ricochet is simply not functioning as intended, causing many genuine gamers to switch to alternative games or grow increasingly frustrated.
Many within the community have expressed a desire for the ability to play exclusively against console peers. Since cheats common on PC aren’t compatible with consoles at present, it’s believed that this setup would result in a more level playing field and a genuinely competitive experience.
In Ranked Play for consoles, there will be three choices from Season 2 as to whom players prefer to compete against, whether they are using Xbox or PlayStation systems.
- Full crossplay between Xbox, PlayStation and PC players
- Console-only crossplay between Xbox and PlayStation players
- Console-specific crossplay between only players on the same console platform
1. To engage in full crossplay, you’ll need to actively choose another option before starting the game. This is because it will be a feature you can opt-out of by default.
2. Regarding Ranked Play, Treyarch hasn’t discussed a ladder that’s exclusive to consoles. Consequently, it appears for now that you’ll continue to have the opportunity to strive towards the Top 250 global ranks based on your Skill Rating (SR) gains.
For console gamers, it’s important to understand that removing PC players from crossplay could lead to extended wait times for finding matches. However, many console users may find this trade-off acceptable if it means enjoying a smoother gaming experience without constant encounters with cheaters. In my opinion, I can easily tolerate a slightly longer wait to enter a game if it means avoiding being instantly eliminated by cheats every time.
