Recently, the primary social media account of VIZ Media, America’s leading manga publisher, was hacked in a fresh crypto scam. As of now, they have not been able to regain control over their account. Notable for bringing English translations of numerous popular manga series such as works by Junji Ito, Fullmetal Alchemist, Spy x Family, Chainsaw Man, One Piece, Goodnight Pun Pun, and countless others to readers, VIZ Media continues its role in the manga community.
Over the past few days since President Trump’s inauguration, various celebrities and corporations have experienced unauthorized access to their accounts, with VIZ Media being the most recent victim. Unlike the affected celebrities who have regained control of their accounts, VIZ Media’s situation remains dire as their account continues to display a different name on January 28, 2025. This unfortunate incident has left many concerned about the future of the company’s official account.
VIZ Media’s Twitter Was Hacked By a Crypto Scam
It appears that the authentic VIZ Media account on X platform was infiltrated by fraudulent cryptocurrency scammers. These individuals managed to gain control over several prominent accounts within the past week, and subsequently posted an enticing message urging followers to buy the latest $VIZ digital token. The post exclaimed, “The $VIZ Digital Token is here!” accompanied by a rocket ship emoji, a symbol often used by crypto investors indicating their coins are about to surge in value. The post further invited followers to embark on a new era of manga and anime.
Interestingly enough, $VIZ is indeed a genuine cryptocurrency token, but it’s not connected in any way with the well-known publishing houses, beyond sharing the same name. Not long ago, the actor Dean Norris from “Breaking Bad” had his account compromised for the second time, this time to publicize a newly launched cryptocurrency.
Initially, it seemed like the company had reclaimed the account following the deletion of a suspicious crypto post. But upon closer inspection, it’s clear that this isn’t true. Although the scam post has been taken down, the profile picture, banner image, account name, and link to the VIZ website are all absent now. The account is currently labeled as “.” with placeholder images instead.
Not only was this strange, but now the account appears to be sharing older tweets originally posted by the official X Engineering platform. Below is a snapshot of the questionable cryptocurrency post they’re currently promoting.

VIZ Media Unveiled Some Major Re-Releases
Despite the ongoing struggles with the company’s X account, publishers are showcasing stunning re-editions of their top-selling manga. The most anticipated among these is the Definitive Edition of Takehiko Inoue’s Vagabond, yet to be animated. If you were impressed by the covers on the initial English releases, the hardcover Definitive Editions surpass them significantly.
Just announced, the company is planning a new release of Yuji Kaki’s “Hell’s Paradise” box set, marking the approach of its second season on anime. This special re-release will feature an additional 80-page booklet containing Yuji Kaki’s standalone work, “Forest of Misfortune.” The eagerly awaited box set is slated for release this Fall.
