Jason Kelce will always fly for the E-A-G-L-E-S.
Before Super Bowl LIX, in which Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles, a previously shared video from their podcast “New Heights” shows that Jason’s loyalty remains with his old team.
In the No Dumb Questions section of the March 25th episode (recorded soon after Jason’s retirement announcement), Travis rephrased a fan’s question directly to inquire from his older brother: “Assuming the Chiefs play the Eagles, would you, Jason, support me, Travis?
After making sure the question was about whom Jason would support if the Chiefs faced the Eagles in the Super Bowl next year, he promptly expressed his response.
As a lifelong Eagles supporter, it’s only natural that I cheer them on. After all, before anything else, I am an Eagle through and through.
Travis made it clear that he did not support that answer by interjecting, “that’s bulls—t.”
Jason mentioned, ‘Of course, I’m hoping Travis has a great game too, since he’s my brother.’ However, I’ll undoubtedly be cheering for the Eagles as well,” Jason added.
It seems that the verified New Heights social media platforms hinted at the fact that since the line-up has been finalized, Jason might need to clarify his role before the February 9th match.
This year’s grand matchup will feature The Eagles and The Chiefs, who booked their spots following victories against the Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills on January 26th. Interestingly, Jason, a former NFL player who hung up his cleats with the Eagles in 2024 after a 13-year stint, was present at both games.
On football Sundays, the host of They Call It Late Night kicked off his day at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. There, he socialized with fans during tailgating sessions before the game, and later entered to catch up with his ex-coach and teammates. Following their victory, Jason expressed his joy through a tweet on X saying, “What a blast! These guys are incredibly talented. GO BIRDS!” (Note: The expletive used is a common expression of excitement in American sports culture, often replacing the word ‘team’.)
Towards the end of the day, Jason was seen donning Travis’ jersey within Arrowhead Stadium, as the Chiefs secured their AFC Championship win. Earlier in the game, Travis (who had Taylor Swift watching from the stands) made an exhilarating play. Excited by this, Jason posted another tweet expressing his praise: “Great block, Travislav!!!”.
In 2023, Jason and Travis didn’t shy away from sibling rivalry. That year, they squared off against one another during the Super Bowl, an event that became known as the “Kelce Bowl.
The Chiefs, victorious in both 2023 and 2024, stand on the brink of creating history by becoming the first team to win three consecutive titles. However, Travis understands that emotions will run high when the Eagles and Chiefs square off in New Orleans on February 9.
As a fanatic who can’t forget our clash during the Super Bowl, I shared with the press after our AFC Championship triumph that they might still bear a bitter taste from our previous encounter. However, it’s crucial for us to knuckle down and focus on getting prepared, ensuring we’re ready to face whatever comes our way.
Keep reading to find out more about Travis…
Though Travis Kelce might forever associate himself with Kansas City, Missouri, his childhood roots lie in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
Instead of announcing his alma mater, University of Cincinnati, the man enthusiastically mentions his hometown during live game broadcasts, particularly during player introductions.
Which, as you might guess, has irked some fellow alums.
2019 saw me expressing gratitude for the time I spent at the University of Cincinnati, as it holds a special place in my heart. However, during my time there, I encountered difficulties; it wasn’t an easy journey. I lost my scholarship, made some poor decisions, and I was that guy who did a lot of things I’m not proud of. But if anyone here from Cleveland Heights High School knows someone who has also made mistakes, they know someone like me.
Beyond just being significant to him, he emphasized, it’s meaningful to everyone here. The variety and richness of this place stir something within me. Everything I undertake is for this community. Admittedly, it might sound trite, but let me assure you, everything I perform off the field – whether it’s my dance in the end zone or any other action – that’s a tribute to Cleveland Heights, for all of you.
2. About that revoked scholarship…
Reflecting on my extraordinary 2009 season with the Bearcats, where we clinched the Big East championship and remained undefeated, I made an unfortunate mistake that tarnished my reputation ahead of the 2010 Sugar Bowl. After celebrating New Year’s Eve in New Orleans, my exuberance for the festivities led to a failed marijuana test. It serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible partying and adhering to professional standards, even during off-field moments.
In a heart-wrenching twist, I, a diehard fan, witnessed my hero being barred not only from the bowl game but also suspended for the entire 2010 season. To make matters worse, he lost his cherished scholarship and found myself homeless, so to speak. Desperate for a roof over my head, I moved in with Jason, crashing into his brother’s room in the house he shared with some teammates. In search of financial stability, I took on a job as a telemarketer, spending my days dialing numbers and inquiring about people’s opinions on the Affordable Care Act.
They did, and Travis could not wait to get back on the field.
3. Prior to focusing on football, Travis had experience with hockey, baseball, and basketball. He served as a quarterback in high school, even being recruited as a two-star QB prospect by Cincinnati. However, he switched to playing tight end as part of the terms for his reinstatement to the team following his suspension.
In his conversation with Arrowhead Pride after being drafted by the Chiefs in 2013, Travis expressed that during his previous time, we had an excellent quarterback in Zach Collaros. However, we required reinforcements not only in the passing game but also in the run game. Consequently, I consulted with my coach, Butch Jones, who was guiding me at the moment. He suggested the need for a tight end, and since my abilities, athleticism, and direction were compatible, it all fit together perfectly for me.
Back in 2017, I confessed to GQ that what some folks call my “low point” was really just them seeing the tight end in me all along.
4. At 127 West Nixon Street, the house where Travis shared lodgings with Jason and other Bearcats, was frequently the location for mischief fueled by beer.
Or more casually:
4. The house at 127 W. Nixon St., where Travis lived with Jason and some fellow Bearcats, was often the site of trouble caused by drinking beer.
Tom DeTemple, a college friend and teammate, recounted to the New York Times before the 2024 Super Bowl that the brothers were fond of spending hours on their Nintendo 64 console. He added that during gameplay, they’d simultaneously manipulate the controls and drink beers, and they often devised unpredictable drinking games in the process. Remarkably skillful at these impromptu activities, they excelled at them.
5. And suffice it to say, Travis is extremely proud of being a Bearcat.
He shared with reporters before the 2023 Super Bowl that his connection to Cincinnati was deeply personal. After all, he hails from the University of Cincinnati. He proudly received his diploma, and whenever he can, he returns to help out. When possible, he revisits the university to be close to the teammates he played with and the people he met during that time who have supported him through life’s highs and lows.
When he faced criticism from the NCAA, he responded, “Those who were part of the university – the players, coaches, and staff – had faith that I could improve the situation and better myself. This belief gave me the strength I needed during that period.
6 years following his college graduation to serve in the draft, Travis finally received his degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2022. However, he didn’t collect his diploma until April 2024, during an unexpected commencement ceremony that coincided with them taping a live episode of New Heights at Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena.
As the graduate moved towards the dean for a congratulatory handshake, he was already clutching a beer can. Following the handshake, he quickly downed the contents of the can.
And Travis was going to graduate in 2022 but he missed his flight.
7. Because of some problems away from the field, Travis was selected as the fifth tight end in the 2013 NFL Draft, taken by the Chiefs in the third round. Following this, coach Andy Reid, who had previously coached Jason in Philadelphia, requested that the older Kelce brother endorse Travis.
Andy and Travis have three Super Bowl rings to show for Jason’s endorsement.
8. For quite some time, Travis would listen to “Burn On” by Randy Newman as his pre-game tune, although the style of music he’s into may have shifted since then.
Speaking on the NBC Sports podcast “PFT Live” in 2017, he shared that as a kid from the eastern side of Cleveland, this song takes him back to memories of family and contemplating his life’s journey, reflecting deeply on how much he values it all.
Let us explain: It’s in the opening credits of Major League, the ultimate Cleveland sports movie.
9. Everyone, including Travis, is mispronouncing his last name.
Although he and Jason recently went out with a person named Kelce, who sounds like “Kel-see,” it is actually pronounced similar to the word “else.
Travis’ teammate Chris Jones dropped a surprising revelation on Inside the NFL in January, saying “Freaky, isn’t it?” His remarks sparked a conversation with their father, Ed Kelce, when Travis and his brothers discussed it on their New Heights podcast.
Jason wondered, “Why on earth did you suddenly decide to change your name without warning, and now we are known as Kel-see?” He pondered, “How could we have thought our name was Kel-see for the first 24 years of my life, and 25 years for Trav?
Ed admitted he “got tired of correcting people” but urged his son to “do whatever you want.”
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share a heartwarming story about the significance of jersey number 87 in the NFL. Throughout his professional career, Travis has chosen to honor a special individual – Jason, who happens to be a fellow ’87 baby. This choice serves as a touching tribute to their shared birth year and the bond they share.
In an interview with NFL Films prior to the 2023 Super Bowl, where his Chiefs faced off against Jason’s Eagles, Travis elucidated that if a Kelce legacy exists, it stems from the birth of two brothers in the NFL, which happened in 1987, as he himself was born during that year.
11. For a number of years, Travis’ foundation and Running has supported Operation Breakthrough, a learning center in Kansas City that the athlete has collaborated with since his initial visit in 2015 when he read The Cat in the Hat to the children there.
Yes, reader, he wore the hat.
Afterward, Travis decided to fund the Smart Lab project and purchased a nearby, previously used muffler shop for this purpose. This enabled them to broaden their horizons and establish the Ignition Lab, where young scholars transformed old cars destined for the junkyard into functioning electric vehicles instead.
12. Travis and Jason affectionately refer to their New Heights audience as “92%ers,” inspired by Jason’s earlier comment that a quarterback sneak play was successful approximately “92 percent of the time” when just one yard is needed for a touchdown.
According to the podcast’s website, fans affectionately referred to themselves as “the 92 percenters,” likening this term to their special identifier or code phrase.
Who were the Kelce brothers to argue with that?
13. Travis is accompanied by three trainers – Alex Skacel, Andrew Spruill, and Laurence Justin Ng – who go with him wherever he goes, as reported by The Athletic. This trio helps him stay fit for football throughout the entire year.
Alex, who is additionally a physical therapist, remembered Travis expressing his desire for an evening jog following a busy day at Paris Fashion Week, where he attended numerous shows. This was due to the fact that he hadn’t had a chance to exercise on that particular day.
At midnight, our coach was leading us in quick exercises across the bridges spanning the river, as he shared with the New York Times in April. Regardless of his location, he always manages to accomplish what needs to be done.
14. Kumar Ferguson, who has been a close friend of Travis’s since their days at Cleveland Heights in the fourth grade, serves as his personal chef.
In 2016, he was a part-time chef while driving trucks. That’s when Travis reached out and presented him with an opportunity.
In 2023, Kumar said to Vanity Fair, “He essentially expressed, ‘I aim to intensify my diet commitment,’ and I replied something like, ‘Wow, that sounds great. Let’s make it happen.’ A few days passed, and I found myself in Kansas City.
He has taken care of various tasks, ranging from filling up Travis’ refrigerator to providing nutritious meals at the Chiefs’ training center.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve been paying closer attention than ever before to my facial hair, and I shared this journey on New Heights recently. In the off-season of 2023, I opted to shave off my full beard but kept the mustache as a tribute to the iconic walrus look that Andy Reid is known for. With admiration for the timeless style, I’ve decided to continue sporting this ‘stache in 2024 as well.
16. In April 2024, when Travis put pen to paper on a two-year deal worth $34.25 million, he became the highest-earning tight end in the NFL for the very first time in his professional football career.
Which finally put an end to years of chatter about how much money he wasn’t making.
In a conversation with Vanity Fair in 2023, Travis jokingly remarked that his supervisors and representatives often point out that he’s underpaid. Whenever I bring up the topic of wanting higher pay, they simply suggest that I approach the Chiefs about it instead.
However, as other revenue streams became available to him, he found himself placing greater emphasis on the overall atmosphere rather than the size of his paycheck.
He clarified, “The freedom of the market can seem appealing, but it only feels that way until you find yourself not coming out on top. I enjoy success; I appreciate the position I’m currently in.
He acknowledged feeling a pang when he saw other players receiving large payouts. It causes you to wonder if you’re being undercompensated, he said. “I’m not sure if I would push harder for my supposed worth, but I do appreciate going to that place each day.
17. Travis developed an interest in clothing from a young age while residing in Cleveland Heights. His high school was essentially a daily fashion show, as he shared with Vanity Fair in 2023.
So, by turning his bedroom into a walk-in closet, he could store all his designer clothes and over 300 pairs of sneakers, including a set of size-13 Nike Air Mags that he bought using a good chunk of his starting salary, even though they were slightly too small for him.
In the early stages of his career, before there were so many sneaker apps available, he shared with the Wall Street Journal that he would simply buy the shoe size he could find in the style he desired.
Though he’s predominantly a fan of Nike (not only due to their sponsorship, but also for personal reasons), Chuck Taylors have a special place in his affections too, as they evoke memories of the fictional baseball star Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez from The Sandlot.
18. Among his dozens of investments, Travis co-owns Ohio-brewed Garage Beer with Jason.
Travis expressed in a June statement that it’s no secret he enjoys having a few beers occasionally. Being the owner of Garage Beer and deeply invested in crafting top-notch light brews, he finds this experience thrilling! There’s nothing more effective at uniting folks than an ice-cold beer, and for Travis and Jason, beer represents camaraderie, family bonds, and enjoyable times.
19. We’re sensing a theme when it comes to Travis’ guilty pleasure TV choices.
In the past, it was known as “Gossip Girl”: “To be honest, it’s fantastic,” he expressed on “New Heights”. “It’s like a TV series set in New York high schools with plenty of drama and essentially everyone gossiping and saying unkind things to each other.
His new favorite show? Peacock’s Emmy-winning backstab-a-ganza The Traitors.
20. As he enters his 12th season in the NFL at the age of 35, Travis has become increasingly candid regarding the physical strain football imposes on a player’s body.
However, since the very beginning, he has endured numerous setbacks, starting with a microfracture in his knee during his rookie season which led to the first of the ten surgeries he underwent throughout his professional career.
21. Travis openly discussed an unsuccessful effort he made to gift Taylor Swift a friendship bracelet containing his phone number during the stop of her Eras Tour in Kansas City, as he chatted on “New Heights”.
After learning from mutual acquaintances that he wished to meet her, she reached out to him directly.
He shared with WSJ. Magazine that she clearly explained the current situation, and fortunately, she contacted him.
Among my long-standing sweet indulgences lies a classic delight – French toast generously adorned with fluffy whipped cream and an assortment of syrups, a delectable treat that never fails to satisfy my cravings.
But more recently he’s become a fan of his girlfriend’s homemade Pop-Tarts and cinnamon rolls.
23. One of Travis’ phone tones features Chris Farley exclaiming “Good grief!” from the movie ‘Tommy Boy’.
He shared with WSJ. The Magazine that he had introduced his love for the comedy of Farley, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell to his girlfriend, saying, “I made it clear: This is my favorite kind of humor.
24. Following their victory in the AFC Championship against the Bengals in 2019, Travis enthusiastically shouted “You’ve got to fight for your right to party!”. This exclamation ignited a tradition where the Chiefs would play the Beastie Boys song with the same title after every touchdown scored at Arrowhead Stadium.
In 2020, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach explained to ESPN that Travis Kelce is similar to a power amplifier – it’s tough to measure exactly how crucial this is. He possesses an extraordinary mix of personality, charm, and enthusiasm, which draws others in. At our stadium, everyone seems to be friends with Travis Kelce. Not only does he boost the morale, focus, and concentration of those around him, but he also keeps things enjoyable.
However, the lively individual who introduced this tune into their lives confessed that they weren’t familiar with all the lyrics until they were asked to perform it alongside Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in February 2023.
Regarding his preferred tunes, Travis mentioned in May 2024 that his top three picks from Taylor’s songbook were “Blank Space”, “The Alchemy”, and “So High School”.
Inquired about it back in September, but when asked again, he responded that he loved them all equally – every single one of them.
26. Early on, comparisons were drawn between Travis and the esteemed tight end Tony Gonzalez, who concluded his 17-season career with the Chiefs in 2013.
Or simply:
26. Travis’s early career has drawn comparisons to Tony Gonzalez, a legendary tight end who retired from the Chiefs in 2013 after playing for 17 seasons.
In 2015, as discussions intensified about whether he could indeed exceed Tony’s accomplishments and the potential disappointment if he failed to do so, Travis chose to ignore the commotion.
In my own words, I shared with Complex, “I set the bar higher than anyone else – myself. My ambition is to achieve the most statistically impressive season any tight end has seen in the history of the game.
Wow, I tell you, on September 29th, I couldn’t believe my eyes as my beloved Travis etched his name even deeper into Chiefs’ history! With that 917th catch, he surpassed the legendary Tony, claiming the title of the Chiefs’ all-time leader in receptions. It was a moment that made my heart swell with pride and adrenaline rush through my veins – truly, no other player ignites the passion within me like Travis does!
Man, it’s mind-blowing how things seem to return to where they started! Here I am, leading the pack with the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that goes way back to the ’60s – one of the original organizations that managed to thrive and stay at the top. A big part of their success is their rich legacy, and a key figure in that is Tony Gonzalez, who’s been like a mentor to me. I can’t help but admire the guy!
27. Of Travis’ many accomplishments, keeping his house in order on his own isn’t one of them.
“He can’t clean,” mom Donna Kelce told Extra in September. “He can’t cook.”
Perhaps having a special guest while they are visiting has given you an added incentive to tidy up and organize things.
“He’s getting a little better,” Donna acknowledged. “I think he’s getting some help.”
