Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Shows off First New Faction in a Decade

Ubisoft is resurrecting one of its oldest and most recognizable strategy game franchises with “Heroes of Might & Magic: Ancient Era.” Fans of the series will notice several familiar aspects, especially in the upcoming game’s factions. But Unfrozen Studios isn’t simply rehashing old features and factions; they’re also introducing some new ones. A fresh faction is making its debut in “Heroes of Might & Magic: Ancient Era” for the first time in a decade, joining classic factions from previous installments and aiming to etch its own niche in the “Heroes of Might & Magic” saga.

In a recent unveiling, Unfrozen introduced the latest faction for “Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era,” which is now their base of operations. Though fans have only been given a sneak peek, the glimpses shown so far have generated quite a buzz, and the art direction for this faction has already garnered acclaim.

In the latest expansion for “Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era“, there’s a new group called the Hive faction. This faction appears to have replaced the Infernal faction, offering a blend of fiery insects and eerie movement. Although the teaser doesn’t showcase the interior cityscape for the Hive faction, it does provide a sneak peek at the castle’s exterior and the specific landscape utilized by this faction.

In the video, you’ll notice Hive units engaged in combat, displaying four distinct types. A bug with two legs, a flaming tongue, and intimidating claws rushes the opposition, a bug that appears to command stands at the rear, seemingly casting a spell, a large, fiery worm burrows underground towards the enemy’s back line, while a spider-like beetle swiftly advances.

Each unit appears quite appealing, with its own unique style. Introducing some color variation would be beneficial, primarily for easier differentiation between units and making them more visually striking against the Hive terrain. As we unveil just a small portion of the Hive faction’s total units, fans will have to stay tuned to see the rest.

The response to the Hive faction has been generally favorable, but there’s one point of contention that’s arisen: the hero in the teaser is riding a horse. Fans of the Hive faction are expressing their desire for the character to instead be mounted on an insect-like creature, which would align better with the aesthetic of the faction.

Beyond the prominent hero character, it appears that the Hive group could prove to be an engaging expansion for the “Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era”, sparking anticipation among players as they await news about the game’s final secret faction. So far, five factions – Temple, Necropolis, Sylvan, Dungeon, and Hive – have been unveiled for this title, leaving one more to be introduced, which may either reappear from past games or be a completely novel addition.

Only the game “Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era” has a confirmed release date within the year 2025, with an early access launch planned before then. However, the specific content that will be available at the initial launch is yet to be determined. Despite this uncertainty, strategy enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the return of this beloved series and expressing optimism that Ubisoft and Unfrozen will successfully bring it to life.
