Black Ops 6 Season 2: New Maps, Modes, and Game-Changing Updates Revealed!

The teams at Treyarch, Raven Software, and other members of Activision’s Call of Duty squad are preparing to unveil Season 2 of Black Ops Cold War’s post-release content. This season promises a significant amount of fresh content that we haven’t seen in a while. The updates will span across Multiplayer, Warzone, and Zombies, but for now, let’s focus on the changes coming to multiplayer with this update, along with the patch notes.

In simpler terms, anticipation is high within the multiplayer community for Season 2, following some disappointments with Season 1. Players felt let down by receiving AI-generated images instead of more desirable in-game rewards, and there were problems with the game’s self-developed RICOCHET anti-cheat system that led to a team update addressing these concerns.

Several assurances regarding updates to RICOCHET gameplay, balance, and system stability have been given, casting a slight shadow over the start of Season 2. The team’s focus on implementing these essential changes is influencing the kind of content we might encounter this season. It’s unclear exactly how much content has been postponed, but even with that consideration, there’s still plenty to anticipate in Season 2. Here’s a brief overview:

1. Gameplay adjustments for RICOCHET are being prioritized, which may impact the content available during Season 2.
2. The team’s commitment to enhancing balance, stability, and other improvements for RICOCHET might cause some delays in the content we’ll see this season.
3. Despite potential content delays, there’s still a lot to be excited about with the launch of Season 2.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 — Multiplayer Quality of Life Changes

It’s clear that Black Ops 6 Season 1 had its challenges, but the Call of Duty team has promised enhancements in quality of life for Season 2 and future updates, as detailed in their Community Updates. Here’s what we can expect from multiplayer with the arrival of Season 2:

[Your text here]

  • Challenge Tracking & Near Completion
    • Manually track up to 10 Calling Card Challenges and 10 Camo Challenges per mode to easily keep track of Challenges you’re progressing.
    • If you have fewer than 10 Calling Card Challenges or 10 Camo Challenges tracked, your nearest Challenges to completion will display in those slots instead. This should help players discover and identify Challenges they are close to completing.
    • The top Tracked or Near Completion Calling Card Challenge and Camo Challenge both appear in the Lobby, as well as in-game via the Options Menu.
  • Unique HUD Presets per mode
    • Players will be able to set the HUD Preset settings they prefer for both Multiplayer and Zombies, keeping a unique setup per-mode without needing to change settings when switching between modes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 — New multiplayer maps

One of the most exciting aspects of new seasonal content is the introduction of fresh multiplayer maps. These new battlefields offer opportunities to devise novel strategies and trends, preventing the game from becoming repetitive or dull. In the past, Treyarch has made it clear that they won’t be introducing large maps for Black Ops 6. Consequently, all content announced for Season 2 falls under the category of small or medium-sized maps.

It is important to note that smaller maps are typically found in the “Strike” playlists and do not include score streaks. Despite this, these smaller maps still provide a thrilling experience with continuous interaction and fast-paced gameplay. However, achieving the 100-elimination goal may prove more challenging due to the close quarters combat.

Here are the five (!) new maps coming to Black Ops 6 multiplayer with Season 2.

New map: Bounty

Wow, there’s a fresh map on its way to multiplayer called Bounty, which is set in a newly acquired penthouse believed to belong to a criminal mastermind. It seems that the victorious Black Ops 6’s Rogue Team decided to celebrate in this penthouse, but their joy was short-lived as a bounty was placed on them, causing mayhem and gunfire at the party. Players will engage in intense combat on the terrace, bathed in the soft glow of dawn, rebounding their preferred ammunition from the gold-adorned Nightclub, and performing acrobatic feats from the Chandeliers in the Lobby. The penthouse also features a hidden torture chamber in one of its offices, typical of the Call of Duty series, and a rooftop construction site offers unique chances for tactical gameplay.

The triumphant squad can expect an enjoyable moment, as rewards will be distributed among the teams participating in the Core 6v6 multiplayer playlists at their debut.

New map: Dealership

In Season 2, the maps of Black Ops 6 are oozing opulence. The second map, called Dealership, is brimming with lavish luxury cars. However, it’s just a façade for washing the ill-gotten gains of an underground criminal market. The map features a car lot and showroom, making it ripe for some explosive chaos. There’s also a commissary and lounge area, and an outdoor courtyard with a panoramic view to spot approaching enemy helicopters.

If you’re really fond of secret routes for RC-XD cars in Skyline and Nuketown, you’ll find yourself thrilled by the experience of navigating the ventilation system in Dealership.

Dealership will be available at launch in Core 6v6 playlists.

New map: Lifeline

As soon as a new Black Ops game is launched, fans often request Treyarch to reintroduce the iconic Hijacked boat map from earlier games. Known for its ocean-based chaos, Hijacked was not petite, but it wasn’t large enough for Black Ops 6. Instead, we’re receiving a smaller watercraft named Lifeline in this edition.

In contrast to other smaller maps, Lifeline isn’t confined solely to Strike game modes when it debuts with Season 2. Instead, you’ll find it in a variety of settings such as 6v6, 2v2, and Strike games, much like Hijacked races swiftly across the ocean, but this time it’s a partially burning yacht we’re talking about.

New map: Bullet

Instead of boats, there are other types of vehicles that could serve as small battlefield settings. In the mid-season update, we’ll also get excited about the debut of Bullet, a fresh map. This new map, similar to Lifeline, will be introduced as a new Strike, 2v2, and 6v6—all set on a swiftly moving bullet train. Sliding doors that open automatically will allow movement between each car, including a first-class lounge and dining car, the second-class sections, and even the engine cab. If you need to cool off during the heat, you can give the rooftop a try.

Remastered map: Grind

Players of Black Ops 2 will be familiar with this iconic map, given a modern update as part of Black Ops 6’s Season 2 Reloaded. The Grind map features skate park settings including a bowl and half pipe, indoor stadium, and a professional store. You’ll need to hold on until the midseason update is released to experience omnimovement on this revamped classic map.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 — Multiplayer modes

Besides acquiring fresh maps, it’s crucial to introduce novel gameplay modes to challenge players effectively. In Season 2, the action unfolds across Valentine’s Day, so team up with your preferred partner and dive into some exclusive playlists for a limited time!

New mode: Overdrive

Overdrive shares some similarities with the old Cranked mode, but it offers a fresh spin. Instead of playing solely for individual gains, now it’s essential that your whole team collects stars to accumulate points. The stars are obtained through specific medals and elimination methods.

  • Earn 1 star for Basic Eliminations like finishing off an enemy with body shots.
  • Earn 2 stars for Core Medal Eliminations like headshots and melee attacks.
  • Earn 3 stars for completing Distinguished Medal Eliminations, reserved for only the most impressive takedowns.

The stars earned then unlock new mode-specific perks:

  • 1 Star: Awakened Senses: See enemies through walls and replenish your health after eliminating a target.
  • 3 Stars: Physical Enhancements: Increased movement and reloading speed.
  • 6 Stars: Augmented Handling: Improved hip-fire accuracy and improved sprint-to-fire and ADS speeds.

Obtaining all three buffs grants you twice the points for eliminations, allowing you to accumulate a higher team score. At its release, Overdrive will be available in highlighted game modes.

Returning mode: Gun Game

In the upcoming Season 2, Gun Game is making its return, leaving me puzzled as to why it isn’t part of every Call of Duty title from the start. This free-for-all mode allows players to enter the game armed with the same initial weapon. With each elimination, a new weapon becomes accessible, and all participants rotate through the same 20 weapons in the lobby. The first player to secure a kill with every weapon emerges as the victor.

New mode: Third Wheel Gunfight

It seems like Call of Duty hasn’t typically given much attention to Valentine’s Day events, but it looks like they might be stepping up their game this year. Since Season 2 spans throughout February, expect plenty of love and affection! However, not everyone may have a partner to play with. In such cases, the Third Wheel Gunfight mode is designed for duo squads who have an extra teammate eager to join in. This special mode will appear in the game rotation later during Season 2.

Couples Dance Off

Gather your preferred teammate, and let’s storm the battlefield for some exhilarating 2v2 encounters on your favorite Face Off maps and game modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed. The exciting new mode, Couples Dance Off, will be added to our playlist rotation during Season 2, but remember, it’ll only be around for a limited time!

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 — Multiplayer perks and equipment

New perk: Slipstream

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, do you feel like you’re not fast enough? How about a bonus that increases your base running speed? This trade-off means you lose the tactical sprint, but you can move more swiftly across the battlefield without having to press the thumbstick. This new Enforcer perk (red) is placed in your third slot for easy access when it drops as a reward during Season 2 events.

New perk: Hunter’s Instinct

In case you require an additional ability for position 2, consider adding “Hunter’s Sense” in Season 2. This is a powerful red enforcer skill which will highlight the nearest adversary after an elimination, helping you maintain your kill streak.

New wildcard: Flyswatter

An effective strategy to earn XP, aid your team, and secure scorestreaks for yourself is to eliminate enemy streaks using a rocket or grenade launcher. However, these weapons can be challenging to handle since there are limited options available, and they often occupy the secondary weapon slot. To make things easier for our supportive friends, we have the “Flyswatter” wildcard, which enables them to swap their melee weapon (knife, baseball bat, drill) with a launcher instead. This means fewer helicopters and UAVs will be available when this feature is activated during Season 2.

Returning scorestreak: War Machine

In the upcoming season, the iconic destructive tool, the War Machine, makes its comeback in Black Ops. To unleash this beast, you’ll need to accumulate a score of 1300 points. It’s perfect for breaking through campers and clearing out enemy teams from tight spaces or buildings, though I won’t pass judgment if you choose to use it for spawn killing. The updated War Machine now shoots explosive clusters in sets of three round bursts and fires a total of 30 rounds. This powerful device will be made available as a reward during Season 2.

Returning weapon: PPSh-41

As a tech enthusiast, I’m thrilled to announce that the fan-favorite SMG is returning to the Black Ops series in Season 2! With its blazing rate of fire, it’ll reduce heavily armored foes to smoldering piles. You might find this PPSh-41 dominating the weapon meta for hip-fire fans in no time, especially when paired with extended magazines and scavenger. Best part? The PPSh-41 is available from the get-go, and you can unlock it by progressing through the Season 2 battle pass!

New weapon: Cypher 091

In the additional game content, assault rifles and submachine guns often take center stage. The Cypher 091 stands out as a potent full-auto assault rifle, boasting a slower firing rate that’s compensated by enhanced maneuverability and handling. It offers clear sightlines, minimal smoke from the muzzle, and controllable recoil, making it a top choice for players who prefer to fight from safe corners as “Sentinels.” This powerful weapon is available at the game launch as a reward in the battle pass.

New weapon: Feng 82

For those players who prefer a more stationary playstyle, the Feng 82 is an aggressive Light Machine Gun that stands out due to its smaller-than-average magazine capacity, but boasts superior accuracy and handling. It takes approximately three to four shots to eliminate an opponent with the Feng 82, but it remains reliable up to 50 meters with manageable recoil if you master burst firing or put some effort into gunsmithing. The Feng 82 will be available at launch as a reward within the Battle Pass.

New weapon: TR2

In these challenging economic times, the unexpected introduction of the TR2 semi-automatic marksman rifle is quite surprising! This weapon boasts exceptional handling and an impressive firing rate. Given that it’s a marksman rifle, it delivers top-notch accuracy and stopping power. However, it’s primarily designed for those who prefer to stay at a distance and ambush opponents unawares. In close combat situations, it can come in handy too, should the need arise.

New weapon attachments

You can’t have new weapons without some new attachments to keep things spicy:

  • Crossbow Attachment (Launch)
    • Assault Rifles, SWAT 5.56 and AEK-973 Marksman Rifles, Underbarrel Attachment, Battle Pass Reward
  • Full Auto Mod (Launch Window)

  • Binary Trigger (Launch Window)
    • Tanto .22 SMG, Fire Mod Attachment, Event Reward

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 — Operator bundles

Every season has its unique style, and Season 2 is no different. To align with the “survival of the fittest” theme, Black Ops 6 is adopting a ninja-centric design for its latest Battle Pass. Leading the way is Operator Nocturne, who, with his blacked-out appearance, may give Warzone players quite a challenge in the coming days. However, he does have some glowing purple eyes and accents to make him somewhat noticeable, though not entirely so.

Beyond Nocturne, there’s also Vortex tailored for BlackCell enthusiasts. This covert operator, shrouded in mystery, sports a futuristic black and orange design for Crimson One. As for collaborative offerings, the comeback of Arnold as The Terminator has been officially announced as the sole crossover bundle at this time.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 — Patch notes

In the second season, the Call of Duty team is taking up a significant challenge by addressing issues from the previous season and offering fresh material that matches player expectations for the series. Each new game’s seasonal content continues to grow larger and more impressive compared to its predecessors in numerous aspects. However, as more elements are incorporated, the chances for mistakes increase. It’s challenging to predict precisely how Season 2 will influence the overall vibe of Black Ops 6 and what this might imply moving forward. For now, we can scrutinize every minor alteration through the patch notes:

  • PROGRESSION & PRESTIGE
    • Addressed an issue that was causing the “Congratulations, you’ve Mastered Prestige” screen to appear after every match for some Prestige Master players.

    •  Players will notice that their personal match performance has a bigger impact on their SR gained or lost after Ranked Play matches in Season 02, especially for the lower Ranks. This should help players early in their Ranked Play Rank journey more consistently earn bigger SR payouts when they perform well, and reduce SR losses incurred after a strong personal performance in a losing effort. While this tuning will impact all Ranks, team performance and the margin of victory are still the primary consideration for SR gains and losses in Ranks Crimson and above.
    • Addressed an issue that was causing all Reticles to appear unlocked in Ranked Play.
    • RC-XD is restricted in Control/Hardpoint, only allowed in S&D
