One Piece: Netflix Has Bad News For The Live-Action Series

When Netflix premiered the live-action version of Straw Hat Pirates last summer, it made a strong entrance. Compared to other live-action adaptations of anime, which are quite numerous, Netflix’s One Piece stood out. Many thought that bringing such a popular anime to life on screen would be difficult, but the creative team, including Eiichiro Oda as Executive Producer, succeeded admirably. They managed to draw both long-time fans of the shonen franchise and new viewers to the Grand Line. However, it seems that viewers eagerly awaiting season two might have to wait longer than they expected, as production reports suggest that the series may not return this year.

In their latest announcement, Netflix unveiled a sneak peek at several major productions slated for their platform in 2025. Among them are anticipated seasons such as Squid Game Season 3, the final installment of Stranger Things, and continuations of popular series like The Witcher and Wednesday. Regrettably, Netflix did not verify whether One Piece season two or Avatar: The Last Airbender season two would be premiering in 2025.

The Seas Were Turning In 2024

Last year during Netflix’s Geeked Week, showrunner Matt Owens shared significant updates about season two. Among the major announcements were the actors chosen for Nico Robin and Crocodile – Lera Above and Joe Manganiello. However, Owens didn’t give any clues about when One Piece season two might release, which fuels speculation that it could premiere in 2026.

Although several actors have been confirmed for new hero and villain roles in season two, one significant character – Tony Tony Chopper, our largest new addition – has yet to be chosen. Despite hints from behind-the-scenes that Chopper will be entirely computer-generated in the upcoming series, a reindeer doctor who often transforms himself, this seems fitting given his ability to alter forms.
